Politicians are among the notable biographies recognized by Wikipedia, as outlined in the policy that states: *"Politicians and judges who have held international, national, or (in countries with federal systems) state/province–wide office, or have been members of legislative bodies at those levels."* However, there is a significant underrepresentation of African legislators and members of parliament on the platform. For example, Nigeria, with 360 legislators who may change every four years depending on elections, is represented by only 53 documented individuals under the [Legislators in Nigeria category](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Legislators_in_Nigeria).
The "African Legislators in Red 2024 " initiative seeks to address this gap by ensuring that all Nigerian legislators are represented with well-researched, accurate, and comprehensive Wikipedia articles. This effort will improve the visibility and accessibility of information about Nigerian legislators, contributing to greater public knowledge and documentation.
Approaches
Training and Recruiting new editors: The program would train 50 volunteers on how to positively contribute to articles relating to Nigerian legislatures.
Closing Knowledge Gaps: The training would close the knowledge gaps by digging deep into some notable but forgotten Nigerian legislatures on Wikipedia and Wikidata.
Closing Gender Gaps: The training would also equipped the participants with the necessary materials and guidelines to improve and create articles about female Nigerian legislatures.
Improving existing articles: Most of the articles about Nigerian legislatures are stubs. They lack appropriate categorization, no description and are without images. The participants would be trained on how to successfully contribute to them.
Creating articles: The project's team are volunteers who have displayed extraordinary mastery of creating notable and qualitative articles. You can check it here, here, https://xtools.wmcloud.org/pages/en.wikipedia.org/Ibjaja055 here] and here. The participants would be highly trained to be able to identify and create notable and qualitative articles.
Edit-a-thon: After the editors have been trained on how to create and improve articles related to Nigerian legislators, there will be a closely monitored edit-a-thon that would be used to massively improve Wikipedia and it's sisters' project of Wikipedia and Wikidata.
Feedback: Google forms would be created to generate feedback from the participants and their perception towards the campaign.

There will be two-day in-person workshops aim to provide participants with a foundational understanding of Wikipedia and Wikidata. During the trainings, the participants would be exposed to both general and specific notability guidelines, sourcing for reliable references, writing from objective point of view and other policies needed to contribute positively to Wikipedia. This would be done by three facilitators.
2. Two (2) series of online reinforcement training: To adequately provide the participants with the necessary knowledge and abilities for editing on Wikipedia and Wikidata. Two online trainings would be established so as to pave way for other people who might want to join the training, campaign and edit-a-thon but limited because of distance.
3 Edit-a-thon: After the two days of in-person training and the two days of online instruction, there will be a one month edit-a-thon for the participants to edit and put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.
4. Office hour: There will be biweekly office hours for the participants. This is needed to address issues that the participants might be facing during the edit-a-thon.
