Part 1: Project and impact

[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

We focused on three main activities: creating awareness for the campaign, organizing a physical event in Asaba, and holding online training sessions. The awareness campaign helped spread the word and encouraged participation, while the physical event in Asaba provided hands-on training for contributors. The online trainings made it easier for more people to join and stay engaged, regardless of their location.

As a result, we were able to create and improve over 600 articles on English Wikipedia and over 400 articles on Hausa Wikipedia, we also added over 500 items on Wikidata amongst other results. The most effective approaches were the combination of both physical and online training, which gave participants flexibility and support. Raising awareness also played a big role in getting more people involved and keeping the momentum going.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: Did the project train new and existing editors?

Did the project close knowledge gap by improving Nigerian legislatures?

Did the project close gender gaps relating to Nigerian legislatures?

Did the project create new articles related to Nigerian legislatures?

Did the project improves new articles related to Nigerian legislatures?

Did the project train new and existing editors? Yes, the campaign trained new and existing editors. We did a physical training and trained those who were not aware of Wikipedia before now. We also had various virtual trainings and sessions that trained existing editors in relation to what we were doing and other related aspects.

Did the project close knowledge gap by improving Nigerian legislatures? Yes, the project helped bridge the knowledge gap by making more information about Nigerian legislators available. We created and improved over 600 articles on English Wikipedia and added more than 500 items to Wikidata. There were also contributions in other language Wikipedias, making the information accessible to a wider audience. This made it easier for people to find reliable details about Nigerian lawmakers and gave them a stronger presence on Wikimedia platforms.

Did the project close gender gaps relating to Nigerian legislatures? The project focused on improving the coverage of Nigerian legislators, and in the process, it also helped close the gender gap. Many female lawmakers had little or no information online, so by creating and improving those articles on English Wikipedia and the items added to Wikidata, we helped increase their visibility. While the project made a difference, there’s still more work to be done to ensure female legislators are equally represented on Wikimedia platforms.

Did the project create new articles related to Nigerian legislatures? Yes, the project led to the creation of new articles related to Nigerian legislators. This helped fill important gaps and made reliable information about Nigerian legislators more accessible to the public.

Did the project improve new articles related to Nigerian legislatures? Yes, the project improved some existing articles on Nigerian legislators that were poorly sourced, and some of the articles were improved from Stub class to Start class.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

No, nothing unexpected happened.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
