Anufo Language Wikimedians have recently joined the Wikimedia Incubator after successfully carrying out its first project and localizing namespaces in translatewiki.net to Anufo language, which resulted in the language adding its first 60 articles in the incubator: Existing online content in Anufo language is inadequate, and local topics remain underrepresented. This content gap limits Anufo speakers and readers from accessing information in their language. Approach to Achieve This Change: Awareness and Engagement: We will conduct awareness sessions at Gambaga College of Education to introduce students and lectures to Wikipedia, highlight its significance, and inspire pride in documenting Anufo knowledge. Skills Training Workshops: Hands-on workshops will teach students and educators how to create, edit, and translate articles to Anufo in the incubator, equipping them with the necessary skills to contribute effectively. Follow-Up and Mentorship: To ensure sustainability, we will provide ongoing mentorship and support to new editors to help them overcome challenges and encourage continuous participation. Institutional Partnerships: We will build relationships with these educational institutions to help us create a long-term structure for participation and to create a community of regular contributors. However, there is still a significant content and contributor gap that we aim to bridge. Our proposed outreach program at Gambaga College of Education will help address these gaps.
The change we are trying to bring is to increase Anufo content and also active contributors to Anufo from students and educators at Gambaga College of Education, creating a sustainable base of content creators who will support the growth and preservation of Anufo language online.
We hope to build their digital literacy skills, and encourage students into a lasting engagement while they also help us recruit other volunteers in their institutions.
Main Challenges: Limited Awareness: Many of our target audience are unfamiliar with Wikimedia incubator or how contributing to it helps preserve the language and culture.
