6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Our team has a linguistic interest and has built cumulative knowledge through organizing a project for Arabic Wiktionary, during which we noticed gaps and needs in content, technical infrastructure, and the editor community. Arabic Wiktionary is a distinctive online dictionary that combines various features typically found across multiple lexicographic resources, including definitions, word roots, and morphological patterns. However, the project’s infrastructure remains underdeveloped and lacks educational materials, guides, and materials. It faces key challenges such as limited visibility, a small and stagnant community of active editors, and a lack of supportive technical tools to facilitate contribution. Our approach addresses these challenges through targeted outreach to individuals with a background in Arabic language studies, teaching, or related fields. We aim to cultivate a culture of continuous contribution by offering curated training sessions and fostering an environment that values the preservation of Arabic terms, which are vital for historical and linguistic research. Additionally, we seek to enhance the technical infrastructure by developing a tool that supports Arabic Wiktionary users in analyzing and editing morphological patterns more efficiently, ultimately improving both user experience and project growth.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

The planned activities are: 1. Conduct 4 training sessions focused on editing and contributing to Arabic Wiktionary. 2. Conduct 4 additional sessions focused on improving related Wikipedia articles, particularly articles connected to word roots, morphological patterns, and linguistic concepts. E.g.: 1. https://w.wiki/DvgW 2. https://w.wiki/Dvh8 3. https://w.wiki/DvhB 3.Organize a series of edit-a-thons, holding one session every week for two months from October to November, to expand and improve linguistic content. 4. Develop an open-source tool (Morphological Analyzer server- أداة المحلل الصرفي) to help users automatically suggest and apply morphological patterns in Arabic entries and merge it with the toolforge and MediaWiki infrastructure. 5. Host a final webinar to share project outcomes, celebrate Arabic language contributions, and highlight the role of technology in advancing Arabic linguistic content online.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.
