The International Center of Photography (ICP) Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon seeks to add over 2 thousand words around women photographers who exhibit and/or artwork is in the ICP collection, as well as alumnae of ICP’s School, to the Wikipedia database.
The two Edit-A-Thons, in June and October, invites the public shed light on women photographers and the role ICP plays to contribute to the history of the medium, all while using one of the largest databases on the internet to spread that information. In the long run, the program will make ICP collections and exhibitions more accessible and citable for the public and leave a long-lasting impact for those seeking more information on the medium and the women who shaped it.

On March 14, 2026, ICP hosted its Cameras and Coffee x Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon event. In just 2 hours, participants added 1.83k words around women photographers who exhibited at ICP, alumni, and photographers in ICP collection to the Wikipedia database. The format proved successful which led to calls for similar events, where participants socialize amongst one another and later contribute to editing Wikipedia pages together.
Before the event, participants will receive an email with step-by-step instructions on how to edit Wikipedia articles. On the day of the event, participants will attend a panel discussion on the role of archives and information in the digital age, which will then lead into the Edit-a-Thon event in the ICP Library.
For the two upcoming editions the format will be expanded featuring the above activities, as well as new programs that will further the involvement of those participating and maximize the data entry sessions, allowing them to be more informed about women photographers and their influence on the medium.
The event is free and open to the public, with plans to hold it more frequently, adding a diverse name of speakers, and a kids table for parents looking to participate. The audience are folks who are socially engaged and passionate about gender equality and counter histories. The goal of Art+Feminism is to equalize both the representation on Wikipedia and the voices that are contributing to Wikipedia. We believe culturally engaged audiences would be interested in contributing to this mission.
The program and mission will appeal to students, scholars, photographers, and those within our community. The program will welcome all-ages and abilities to learn about editing Wikipedia and will provide an entry level introduction to the platform, from creating a login to making your first edit.

Target participants are expected to be individuals who are passionate about gender politics and looking to revise and expand on current histories . The two events will resonate with art and photography students, scholars, photographers, and members of ICP's photography enthusiast community. The program welcomes participants of all ages and abilities, offering an accessible, entry-level introduction to Wikipedia editing.
Before the Event
Registered participants will receive a curated preparation package via email, including a Wikipedia editing tutorial and selected materials from the ICP database to explore in advance.
On the Day
The program unfolds across two sessions:
11 AM – 1 PM | Panel Discussion and ICP Photobook Club — Three speakers will explore the role of archives and information, accompanied by photobooks reading room drawn from ICP's collection and the speakers' personal libraries. The activity will take place in ICP Library.
2 – 5 PM | Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon — A hands-on editing training session at 2 PM, leading into a full group Edit-a-Thon in the ICP Library.
After the Event
We'll stay connected with participants through follow-up emails with invitation to join other ICP's monthly community meetups and future Wikipedia Edit-a-Thons.

We are partnering with 10x10 Photobooks, a non-profit, community-oriented organization dedicated to championing photobooks with a particular focus on overlooked publications and underrepresented voices in photobook history on Saturday, October 24, 2026 session. They will host a talk and photobooks reading room from 11 AM – 1 PM, followed by a Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon from 2 – 5 PM in the afternoon.
