The Arts and Feminism Wikimedia Commons Workshop for Creative Arts Professionals aims to address the underrepresentation of women and feminist perspectives in arts-related content on Wikimedia projects, particularly Wikimedia Commons. This workshop seeks to equip creative arts professionals with the skills and knowledge to contribute high-quality, diverse, and inclusive visual content to Wikimedia Commons, thereby enhancing the visibility of women and feminist narratives in global arts and cultural documentation. Professionals will also be engaged in an online contest to donate high quality images about notable women and feminist art and culture on Wikimedia commons to commemorate the international women's day.
some of the challenges we have identified includes;
Women's contributions to arts and feminism are often overlooked or inadequately documented in public archives, including Wikimedia projects.
Existing visual content on Wikimedia Commons lacks diversity in terms of gender, geography, and thematic focus. According to Humaniki only 21.3% of images are related to females and 0.37% are about other genders.
Many creative arts professionals, particularly women, are unaware of Wikimedia Commons as a platform for showcasing their work, project women online or documenting feminist art and culture and any other way that project Africa content online A lack of technical knowledge about open licensing thus Creative commons license, copyright considerations, and content uploads limits participation of these professional in our movement

Introduce and provide hands on training on Wikimedia Commons highlighting the gaps in relation to women and feminist content. We will also go on to show how participants can donate or migrate free images on commons relevant for wikipedia projects as well as teach them how to structure data on commons using tools.

This online contest will encourage participants to put their skills to practice.
