1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Nigeria as an Anglophone country in West Africa, has French speakers and readers from its neighboring countries. It is established that, Nigerians use French language to communicate with their Francophone neighbors, French as a second official language, as a career, subject for students, for the job market and for sustaining the Franco- Nigerian. Nigeria has more than 6000 (six thousand) students studying French language as major across the public and private institutions in the country including the Nigerian French Village in Lagos. These Students, French Teachers and Lecturers need to read articles in French to carry out their research works, few articles are written French language in Nigeria Wikipedia sphere, no project expressing Nigerian realities in French language. This is the gap this project Building French Wikimedia Community in Nigeria intend to fill, in order to contribute to French Wikipedia in Nigeria and the world at large.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

The aim of the project is to create an Edit-a-thon Training and Translation of articles on Wikimedia. The participants will be trained on how to edit, create and translate articles from English to French Language, in order to contribute to French Wikipedia in Nigeria and the world at large. To also bring volunteers together and increase the number of articles on French Wikipedia Platform through translations and creation of Articles.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

The training will involve French lecturers, undergraduate and postgraduate students of French Language Studies at Osun State University to possess the necessary skill needed to contribute high quality content to the French Wikipedia. The project will promote the Nigerians culture. The activities include Edit-a-thon Training and Translation for two days.

Atchrimiade will lead the project , while Omorodion1 experienced Wikimedia Facilitator, Mentor and project manager will manage and coordinate the project.

Articles are written French language in Nigeria Wikipedia sphere and no project expressing Nigerian realities in French language.

The training will involve French lecturers, undergraduate and postgraduate students of French Language Studies at Osun State University to possess the necessary skill needed to contribute high quality content to the French Wikipedia. The project will promote the Nigerians culture, people, cities and towns... in the French Wikipedia. Before, during and the training, there will be a WhatsApp group to engage the participants. After the event, the WhatsApp group will remain for us to keep giving assistance to the trained editors.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

Osun State University security personnel will be on ground to ensure that everyone is safe.
