1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

The creation of Wikipedia and project awareness In Kaduna State is targeted towards laying a solid foundation for the widespread adoption and use of Wikimedia products among the youths especially students in higher institutions in Kaduna State.

This is in addition to exposure and helping them acquire numerous digital and research skills to enable them to contribute massively to articles that will increase the visibility of the growth and development of Kaduna State by creating numerous contents, alongside deploying the knowledge and skills learnt to contribute contents with original images for Wikipedia.

This 2 days training has the potential to bridge the content gaps that exist about articles on different topics relating to Kaduna with the help of experienced editors ; many notable local and international scholars, organizations, tourist attraction sites such as the historical and research places, and many more in Kaduna state do not have wide coverage on Wikipedia.

Also, unlike in other states where there has been a series of training and presence of the Wikimedia community, there has never been any training or series of edit-a-thons to train people and notify them about Wikimedia projects and how they can contribute to it them in kaduna state. No doubt, this project if approved will help to establish the first ever Wiki community meetup in Kaduna state, including a club specifically meant for a group of editors and learners.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

Recruiting 50 new editors across different higher institutions of learning in kaduna State. This will allow full participation of students from different institutions within kaduna State.

Creating awareness about Wikimedia projects among participants in Kaduna State. Many of the participants may be familiar with English Wikipedia but few are aware of other existing languages Wikipedia especially the Hausa people Wikipedia as well as other Wikimedia products that promote free knowledge and open access to information enhancing the need for this approach.

Training participants on how to contribute to the various Wikimedia projects that the training focuses on; create Wikipedia account, understand the core content policies, and understand general editing principles, performing minor edits among others to improve content about people, places, organizations of kaduna State on English Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons.

Use outreach dashboard to track contributions and provide one on one support for editors.

Giving out prizes to top 3 contributors as incentives to motivate them at the end of the campaign.

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

The project will run for a period of 2 to 3 days to introduce Wikipedia to this community.

Also, the training is set to have 2 physical and online training/ edithatons to ensure that editors are properly guided on how to bridge the knowledge and content gap across various Wikimedia projects.

To ensure the sustainability of the project, After the events, participants will join as members in the Wikimedia community, this will keep them updated and encourage participation during wiki events.
