Rapid Fund Final Report

Application type: Standard application

Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Out of the activities requested for financial coverage, I managed to attend three major events with an official press / photo pass, including the Eurovision Song Contest, where I believe I was the first Polish photographer on the photographers' platforms, 3-Majówka in Wrocław, and the prestigious Opole Polish Song Festival. The result is 2500 photos. Long-term relations with the organisers of the events were instrumental to getting the passes, as was proof of past concert coverages with the Commons portfolio page: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Wojciech_P%C4%99dzich

I was also able to team up with WikiPortraits who provided help in terms of accomodation for the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel and will prove to be a possible contact in the future.

2. Documentation of your impact. Please use space below to share links that help tell your story, impact, and evaluation. (required)

Share links to:

  • Project page on Meta-Wiki or any other Wikimedia project
  • Dashboards and tools that you used to track contributions
  • Some photos or videos from your event. Remember to share access.

You can also share links to:

  • Important social media posts
  • Surveys and their results
  • Infographics and sound files
  • Examples of content edited on Wikimedia projects

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:62._KFPP_in_Opole - three galleries to be added yet, very valuable photos from last day as I was sitting in first row:

Additionally, share the materials and resources that you used in the implementation of your project. (required)

For example:

  • Training materials and guides
  • Presentations and slides
  • Work processes and plans
  • Any other materials your team has created or adapted and can be shared with others

Only my own + rented equipment, plus the Adobe Lightroom suite. Processing photos takes time which is why some uploads are pending. I shoot burst, so can take up to 3000 images per a busy evening and whittle them down to 200-300.

3. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with this Rapid Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals. Required. Select one option per question. (required)

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Neither agree nor disagree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Neither agree nor disagree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Neither agree nor disagree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Neither agree nor disagree
G. Increased participants' feelings of belonging and connection to the movement Neither agree nor disagree
F. Other (optional) Since this was a solo project, most of the answers above are neutral. Bringing current content to Wikimedia projects from an accredited perspective is still on the rise and should be explored more with assistance of local chapters.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: I am hoping to master my photography skills, as well as improve my planning for large events photography. First visits to Eurovision and Summer Dying Loud were solid lessons in streamlining work, managing my biological resources, and resulted in lessons learned, equipment purchases, and conclusions for optimising my concert work.

I have done some workflow improvements, including watching the reruns of the Eurovision events to catch some interesting points and moments for the grand final photoshoot. Still to be improved: workflow after the event, so that photos are delivered earlier. In terms of the ESC, I would plan to see the rehearsal broadcast in the press area so that even those performers that don't make it into the final get a fair chance of good representation - seeing their performance during a rehearsal makes it possible to pinpoint interesting

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Always search for opportunities - in the Opole Festival I was seated in the last row which was hard to get close-ups from but on three of the days I was able to locate a vacant seat closer to the stage.

Be ready not to plan over your capacity. I was not able to implement all the concerts, also due to my personal day-off limits from work being close to empty.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

I delivered a photo training at the CEE Meeting and the Polish WIkimedian Retreat, building all my learnings so far into a 1h demo. I am ready to deliver this training to future audiences, including a festival in Malta that I am working on to get accredited. Also ready to share my workflow with anyone interested.

Part 3: Metrics

7. Wikimedia Metrics results. (required)

In your application, you set some Wikimedia targets in numbers (Wikimedia metrics). In this section, you will describe the achieved results and provide links to the tools used.

12.2. If you have not already done so in your financial spending report, please provide information on changes in the budget in relation to your original proposal. (optional)

As agreed on Meta, I was able to relocate unused Fryderyk ceremony funds to potentially attend a different show outside of my city of residence.

As agreed in a conversation with Chris Schilling in Thessaloniki during the CEE Meeting, I was able to repurpose the unused accomodation funds to the rental of a super telephoto 200-500 lens for Eurovision which proved a good step and made it possible to catch many close-ups
