Grants:Programs/Wikipedia 25 Fund/Conversations and celebrations around Wikipedia’s 25th birthday in Sicily (Italy) (ID: 23652101)/Final Report
Project and impact
[edit]- 1. How did your project go? Did you reach all project goals and success metrics?
The project went really well: our 3 planned events took place in the envisioned timeline. We had 12 participants in Palermo, 20 in Catania and 6 in Ragusa, which in average meets our goal of 10 participants at each event.
While the event in Catania was mostly focused on building connections and presenting the Wikimedia projects to newcomers, the events in Palermo and Ragusa were much more focused on editing, and many participants made some edits on various projects: Wikipedia, Commons but also OpenStreetMap.
Finally, we focused as planned on presenting the Wiki Loves Earth campaign and getting people aware and excited about the possibilities. During the events in Catania and Ragusa, we built connections that could be very useful in the future: we involved a nature guide into the project and we initiated discussions with the Scouts organizations to plan activities together.

- 11. If you have not already done so in your financial spending report, please provide information on changes in the budget in relation to your original proposal.
We spent less than planned on logistics and space (as we managed to negotiate two out of three locations for free) and could spend a bit more on swag, catering and birthday cakes for the 3 events.
- 12. Do you have any unspent funds?
Yes
- 12.1. Please list the amount and currency you did not use and explain why.
Because we managed to reduce the location and travel costs, we underspent by 200USD. We used additional 100USD to buy some additional communication materials for an OSM mapping party that we organized shortly after the birthday events, and we plan to use the remaining funds (100 USD) to cover the costs of similar activities.
- 12.2. What are you planning to do with the underspent funds?
A. Propose to use the underspent funds within this Fund period with PO approval
- 12.3. Provide details of hope to spend these funds.
We have new Wikimedia and OSM activities coming up and we will make sure that the remaining funds are used in alignment with the Wikimedia projects values: cover travel costs for volunteers joining an editathon or mapping party, and communication materials.
- 13.1. Are you in compliance with the terms outlined in the fund agreement?
Yes
- 13.2. Are you in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations as outlined in the grant agreement?
Yes
- 13.3. Are you in compliance with provisions of the United States Internal Revenue Code (“Code”), and with relevant tax laws and regulations restricting the use of the Funds as outlined in the grant agreement? In summary, this is to confirm that the funds were used in alignment with the WMF mission and for charitable/nonprofit/educational purposes.
Yes
