Festivals are one of the elements of culture that showcases the beauty of a particular group of people. In Africa, specifically Ghana festivals are held in high esteem, however, research shows that most of the content on Wikipedia about festivals in Ghana do not have enough images that portray the beautiful cultural festivals of the Ghanaian heritage to the rest of the world.
When people are reading articles, their attention is more readily attracted to a picture than simply a group of words because they inject color and character into a body of text. So as the saying goes, pictures speak loader than words. The Festivals in Ghana project will help add photo stories to the selected festivals in Ghana. We will add a photo gallery to every festival content to add more understanding of the culture. It is important to showcase the beautiful festivals in the form of pictures in our Ghanaian cultural heritage. We want to bridge the gap between content and photo story in this project.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
Our strategic approach is to select a period where most festivals are being celebrated a lot and leverage on that to cover them. Since there are many festivals in Ghana which cannot be covered in one year, we are hoping to document at least eight (8) festivals and upload them on Wikimedia Commons for future projects on Wikipedia.
The period will be between November and May 2025. During this time, groups tend to host festivals. It is our goal to cover at least two (2) festivals per month during this period.
Another strategy we will use is the timeliness of our uploads. Considering the nature of the project, uploads of the images will be done after every photo walk. This will aid us to properly track the project and also make it easier for us to complete the project in an orderly manner.
