We work hard to collect Hausa history and culture. We go to many places to take pictures and write stories. We also train people how to write on Wikipedia and how to improve things inside.

We work together with Gidan Dan Hausa to make sure what we do is correct. We also train people specially so they can help us. We also have a writing competition to encourage people to write stories.

All of these help to improve Hausa Wikipedia and increase the things inside.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: From this project, we hope to learn a lot about preserving and sharing the rich heritage of the Hausa community. We want to find out the best ways to collect and document local knowledge, making sure it's accurate and interesting for readers on Hausa Wikipedia.

We'll also learn about the challenges and opportunities of training and motivating a diverse group of people, including women and young people, to contribute to this important work. By working closely with local historians, academics, and community leaders, we aim to see how their expertise can enrich our project.

Another key thing we want to understand is how making more information about Hausa culture available online affects the community. Will it lead to more people reading and engaging with Hausa Wikipedia? We're excited to find out.

Our partnerships with places like Gidan Dan Hausa Museum and Gidan Makama Museum are crucial. We hope to learn how these collaborations can help us create high-quality content that truly reflects Hausa traditions and history.

Lastly, we aim to develop a sustainable model for future projects. This will help us and others replicate our success in different regions and languages, contributing to the global effort to preserve cultural heritage through Wikimedia projects.

From this work, we learned many things about keeping Hausa history and culture.

  • Good Writing: Working with Hausa history people, teachers, and places like Gidan Dan Hausa and Gidan Makama helped us get true information. We made sure the information was easy to understand but also correct.
  • Training People: We taught many people, including women and young people, how to write on Wikipedia. We learned that teaching them directly and helping them all the time is important to keep them working. We also learned to teach people at different levels to keep them interested.
  • Helping People: Putting Hausa culture online made more people interested in Hausa Wikipedia. This showed that writing about local things can make people more interested.
  • Working Together: Working with cultural groups helped us write better and also showed us how to work together on future projects.
  • Keeping It Going: This work showed us how to keep Hausa culture safe for a long time. We can use these ideas to help other languages and places on Wikimedia.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During this work, we saw some things we didn't expect, good and bad.

Good things: More people than we thought joined, especially Hausa language experts. Also, many people joined the online training, showing they really want to keep Hausa culture.

Bad things: Because of safety problems in some parts of Northern Nigeria, we couldn't go to Kebbi and Sokoto. Instead, we went to Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa. Also, some new writers didn't sign up on the Meta page, which made it hard to keep track of them.

From this, we learned to be flexible. Even though we couldn't go everywhere, we still did a lot of good work. We also learned to be clear about signing up so we can keep track of people better.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

I will share what we learned and did on social media, using pictures and videos to show the important things. I will also write a lot about what we did on Wikimedia Diff. This will help more people know about our work and help other Wikimedia groups learn from us.
