5. Are your activities part of a Wikimedia movement campaign, project, or event? If so, please select the relevant project or campaign. (required)

6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The primary change we seek to bring is an improvement in the quality of content and a stronger engagement of editors across the English, Twi, and Fante Wikipedias, particularly focusing on articles related to Ghana’s administrative regions and divisions as the upcoming elections approach. Despite having experienced editors in Ghana, many still lack adequate training on core Wikipedia policies such as neutrality, verifiability, and the use of reliable sources. This gap in understanding has resulted in contributions that often fall short of Wikipedia's quality standards. Additionally, many articles about Ghana, especially on local language Wikipedias, are either non-existent or incomplete.

We plan to organize targeted workshops and training sessions aimed at building the capacity of experienced editors, helping them better understand and apply Wikipedia’s core policies to improve the quality of their contributions. We also intend to launch a WikiProject focused on enhancing and updating articles about Ghana's administrative regions and divisions, leveraging the community's collective efforts to improve content across all relevant language Wikipedias.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

The planned activities for this project focus on addressing the challenges faced by experienced/existing editors and improving the quality of articles related to Ghana on local Wikipedias. First, we will organize a series of workshops aimed at providing comprehensive training on Wikipedia’s core policies, such as notability, verifiability, and neutral point of view, to equip editors with the necessary skills.

Next, we will launch a dedicated WikiProject focused on improving and updating articles about Ghana’s administrative regions and divisions, especially as the upcoming elections draw near. This project will aim to engage both experienced and new editors in contributing to accurate and up-to-date content on the English, Twi, and Fante Wikipedias.

Additionally, we will initiate a coordinated cleanup and improvement drive, where editors will work together to update outdated articles, fill gaps in incomplete entries, and enhance overall content quality. Special attention will be given to articles in the Twi and Fante Wikipedias.

We also plan to establish partnerships with local communities and other Wikimedia groups. These partnerships will provide essential support through access to resources, training spaces, and further outreach to strengthen the impact of the project

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

(User:WendyGyadu): She is an event organizer and contributor with a background in the Fante language. She will provide general support to task leads, handle communication, and contribute to other aspects of the project.

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The target participants for this project are experienced/returning editors specifically those contributing to the English, Twi, and Fante Wikipedias. These participants include both active editors who need further training on Wikipedia's core policies and less-engaged editors who can be encouraged to contribute more frequently. We will also welcome new editors

To ensure continued participation and retention after the project implementation, we have developed a series of strategies. First, we will collect usernames and contact information through feedback forms to keep track of our participants. Additionally, we will offer optional mailing lists and social media groups for those interested in staying updated on future events.

We also plan to identify the most active, knowledgeable, and motivated contributors and invite them to future events, providing them with opportunities to take on leadership roles within the community. Finally, we will add new participants to the existing WhatsApp/Telegram group to encourage continued discussions and collaborations.

Learning and metrics

[edit]
17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

In this project, we hope to learn how increased engagement of experienced editors impacts the quality and accuracy of local content on Wikipedia, especially on the Twi and Fante Wikipedias. We also aim to understand how targeted training on core Wikipedia policies can improve the editing skills and retention of local editors. Our learning questions include:

How does training experienced editors on core policies influence the quality of edits? What impact does consistent engagement have on editor retention and motivation? How effective are our efforts in improving and cleaning up articles related to Ghana’s administrative regions and divisions? What challenges or barriers do editors face when contributing to local Wikipedias, and how can they be addressed?
