Part 1: Project and impact

[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

1. Capacity Development- the newly established Wikiclub Cebu leaders were introduced and oriented about the Wikimedia Movement, about various Wikiprojects, about membership in a WikiClub, building strategic partnerships and growing a community moving forward. Now, the Wikiclub Cebu members are aware of these knowledge so we are ready to expand and grow the Wikiclub forging alliances with other organizations and institutions in Cebu.

2. Basic Workshop and Edit-a-thon- We were taught about editing Wikipedia, adding media and content, citations and translation activities. Now we know how to do some simple corrections, upload on Wikimedia Commons, translate from English or Tagalog Wikipedia to Cebuano Wikipedia and create an account and register in the Campaign Dashboard. We also learned how to monitor our output per event.

3. Photowalk in Cebu's Museums and Heritage sites - we did a photo walk in Cebu's prominent museums such as the Cathedral Museum and National Museum, Casa Gorordo and Cebu Sustainability Gallery and learned more about Cebu's open knowledge and heritage. It was an enriching experience for the participants.

4. The Cebu Living Heritage Project was a collaboration with SKAP teaching us how to capture and document living heritage and putting them on Wikimedia Commons. We went to the markets, documented Cebu's local food and delicacies, went to museums and capture artifacts on agricultural and transportation tools and equipment used in Cebu in various time periods and uplaod them to Wikimedia Commons.

What worked well is the walk though and teaching done to us by SKAP. First in the capacity development, second in the transfer of knowledge and third, in helping us establish partnerships with other organizations to push our open knowledge agenda. Its works best because now we are being tapped to conduct lectures about Wikipedia in various campuses.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: We hope to learn to collaborate with other Filipinos in sharing the benefits of open knowledge by increasing human editors in Cebu to minimize being overtaken and outperformed by bots. We wish to learn how it is to grow the Cebuano Wikipedia using human editors not threatened by technology but can work hand in hand to provide better Wikipedia articles and contents.

We achieved this goal. SKAP has been walking us through offline and online so we can sustain our newly established community. It is quite challenging to start at first because establishing a Wikimedia community in Cebu needs a lot of effort, but if we persist and keep on moving forward, we will grow eventually.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

In the positive side, we did not expect that because the media did a very good job in introducing WikiClub Cebu to the rest of the population, we were an overnight success. As a result, we are immediately welcome in collaborating with other organizations whether public or private.

In the not so negative side, our overnight popularity will need to be sustained. So we asked SKAP to support us until we can stand on our own and grow from there. Now since everyone wants to know WikiClub Cebu and work with it, we need to balance our energy and get more volunteers from various schools.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We plan to work with another WikiClub, Wikiclub Zamboanga to share with each other our strengths and face the challenges together because, they are newly established like us so we can tread this journey together. Since Wikiclub Cebu is quite new, we are still on the process of learning, relearning and accumulating knowledge and experience that we may soon share with other Wikiclubs in the near future.

Part 3: Metrics
