Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

Creating awareness about Wikimedia projects in Owo Community: The awareness was created through online publicity and leveraging previous collaboration with the Owo cultural group from Achievers University.

Training and Recruitment: 50 existing editors and 20 new ones were recruited during the awareness and trained using comprehensive resources through online and physical sessions.

Improving, creating Owo contents on English Wikipedia and expanding coverage of cultural heritage on Wikipedia Commons: An Edit-a-thon was organised as the participants actively contributed to Wikipedia and WikiCommons.

Community building of Wiki editors in Owo: At the end of the project, a sustainable group named 'Wikimedians in Owo' was made available to the participants. The link to the community is provided in the designated space.

At the end of the project,

A sustainable group in the form of a WhatsApp group was launched, where the participants interacted, sought guidance, and continued to learn about the Wikimedia movement.

Leveraging previous collaboration with the Owo cultural group from Achievers University was an effective approach as the majority of the participants who participated in the project emerged from the Achievers University in Owo.

Yes, the participants were inspired to continue contributing to Wikimedia initiatives as evidenced by the positive feedback and survey results I collected after the project ended. Other Wikimedia projects were shared with them through the sustainable community named Wikimedians in Owo to ensure the ongoing exchange of knowledge and facilitate collaboration among editors.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During the physical training, the Director of Corporate Affairs at Achievers University, who is a native of Owo, showed interest in the project and encouraged participants to contribute to future Wikimedia projects focused on expanding coverage of Owo's cultural heritage.

The project results have been disseminated to other community members in the Wikimedia Nigeria usergroup by sharing links to the project dashboard.
