Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

During our SheSaid 2025 campaign, we implemented series of capacity-building, advocacy, and content creation activities that aimed at increasing the visibility of notable women from Ghana, and around the world, from November to December 2025. The activities included edit-a-thons and hands-on training workshops focused on creating and improving Wikiquote entries featuring quotes by notable women in leadership, education, culture, media, and activism. Introductory wikiquote training sessions were organized to onboard new contributors, with emphasis on wikiquote policies, sourcing, notability, and gender-responsive editing. We started with series of online events which was focused on how to edit wikiquote. Under the online events, we collaborated with Radio Windy Bay 98.3fm to conduct a hybrid one. This initiative was to created high awareness to other stakeholders and made new editors to join the campaign. Community engagement sessions were conducted in a supportive and inclusive environment, encouraging participation from women and first-time editors, while content translation and localization helped reflect local language and cultural contexts. The radio tour significantly enhanced visibility for the campaign, reaching a broader audience and sparking interest in open knowledge and women’s representation online. The events led to the recruitment and retention of new editors, particularly women, many of whom made their first successful Wikimedia edits during the campaign. Participants gained practical editing skills, improved understanding of Wikimedia guidelines, and increased confidence in contributing to open knowledge projects. The campaign also strengthened the local Wikimedia community by fostering collaboration, peer learning, and sustained engagement among participants. The most effective approaches in achieving these results were the use of hands-on, guided editing sessions that enabled participants to learn through practice and receive immediate support. Peer mentorship from experienced wikimedians helped reduce barriers for new editors and improved the quality of contributions. The integration of the radio tour proved especially effective in broadening community engagement and awareness, while adopting a gender-inclusive and culturally relevant facilitation approach created a safe and motivating space for participants. Aligning all activities closely with the #SheSaid campaign goals helped maintain focus, motivation, and meaningful contributions throughout the events.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: I would like to know if this project on gender-specific advertisement will draw more users to the Network.

I would like to know how many individuals will begin editing wikiquotes due to their involvement in the project.

I anticipate this effort will strengthen our network's ties to wikipedians in other wiki communities in Ghana and other nations.

1. Will this project on gender-specific advertising draw more users to the network? This project really drew new female editors to our community since they got to know that it is a campaign that is giving women voice in world. During the SheSaid 2025 in Fante campaign, women became aware that the initiative is intentionally creating space for their voices to be heard and represented in the world. This sense of inclusion and purpose encouraged more women to join and actively contribute to the community. Which has also increase the number of active editors in the community.

2. How many individuals will begin editing Wikiquote as a result of their involvement in the project? Through the SheSaid 2025 in Fante campaign, a noticeable number of participants began editing Wikiquote for the first time. The project’s training sessions and emphasis on amplifying women’s voices motivated new editors to actively contribute and continue participating in Wikiquote editing. Some even said that, they see that editing wikiquote is easier than wikipedia. So they were always eager to edit on our wikiquote incubator site.

3. To what extent will this effort strengthen our network’s ties with Wikipedians across Ghana and other countries? The campaign helped us to collaborate with several Wikipedians from Ghana. During the campaign period, we strengthened our relationship with a technical Wikipedian in Ghana who supported the technical aspects of the campaign. Others assisted by facilitating both online and in-person events.

We also collaborated with Wikipedians from other countries. Notably, User:Anthere joined one of our online events as a guest speaker. Her participation encouraged more female editors to gain confidence and believe that they too can contribute meaningfully to the promotion of free knowledge

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During the implementation of the SheSaid 2025 in Fante campaign, we experienced both positive and negative moments .

On the positive side, collaboration with local institutions, media space and language experts was more impactful than anticipated. Their active involvement provided resources, credibility, and wider community reach, which significantly strengthened participation and visibility for our campaign. Another pleasant surprise was the strong response to virtual engagement sessions. Many women who could not attend the in-person event due to time or location constraints actively participated online, showing that hybrid engagement greatly increased inclusivity and overall impact. One unexpected challenge was the varying levels of confidence and experience among participants in sharing their stories publicly. While some women were eager and expressive, others were hesitant and needed more encouragement and guidance. This highlighted the need for stronger facilitation, trust-building activities, and continuous emotional support to help all participants feel safe and heard.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

I have shared some results to them through our diff blog we wrote. But if other community members would like to learn from our experience, I will share our project plans and training materials to them.
