6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The change I am trying to bring: As a Wikimedia community member, I am strongly interested in fostering unrestricted access to knowledge and closing the knowledge gap regarding Africa on the internet. I want to make a difference in the following areas with Wiki Loves Africa: 1. More African cultures and histories are represented online: A lot of African cultures and histories are either underrepresented or inaccurately represented online. By encouraging the production and dissemination of free knowledge about Africa, I hope to change this. 2. Increased exposure and accessibility of African material: A large portion of the current online content about Africa is difficult for people throughout the world to view or obtain. Through Wikimedia initiatives, I hope to raise the awareness and accessibility of African content.

Main Challenges or Problems:

1. Limited online representation of African cultures and histories: African voices and perspectives are consistently marginalized due to the absence of online representation of African cultures and histories. 2. Limited access to knowledge and information about Africa: People's capacity to learn about and interact with African cultures and history is hampered by the scarcity of trustworthy and accurate information about Africa on the internet. 3. Limited involvement of African communities in online knowledge development: The dominance of Western viewpoints and voices on the internet is sustained by the underrepresentation of African communities in online knowledge creation.

Main Approaches: I want to use the following strategies to deal with these issues:

1. Holding photo competitions and editing challenges: I want to use Wiki Loves Africa to host picture competitions and editing challenges that inspire individuals to produce and disseminate free information about Africa. 2. Forming alliances with African communities and organizations: To encourage the production and dissemination of free knowledge about Africa, I intend to form partnerships with Nigerian communities and organizations. 3. Training and support for African Wikimedians: To provide African Wikimedians with the abilities and self-assurance they need to produce and disseminate free knowledge about Africa, I intend to train and support them.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found.
