Women in Wikipedia and Wikitionary have less or absolutely absent participation in many Wikimedia sister projects and language Wikis, coming to Hausa Wikitionary, no women-related project, engagement, meeting, Edit-a-thon or workshop has ever been implemented focusing mainly on women, as a result of that we have seen several lapses and challenges that women are facing in Hausa Wikitionary community like lack of participation, gender bias, gender inequality, and women justification. Such problems have caused the following challenges for women in the Hausa Wiktionary, which we are planning to address as part of the changes we are trying to implement. 1-The voices of women are absolutely silent. Women's contribution is not recognized; there is no female sysop, and no active group of women working on developing the Hausa Wiktionary projects. 3-women-related content (words) has no vital focus with a lower number of word entries on women-related content. 4-Women's participation is very less in the Hausa community, especially seeing that a lot of women have been attending different workshops and training organised by men.
So, Women in Wiktionary have limited participation and inclusion. Finding relevant activities that promote women-related content is challenging, and overall representation remains inadequate, we planned to address this challenge through this project among women.
Below is a comprehensive explanation structured to address the three challenges that remain obstacles to women in Hausa Wiktionary.
This project is designed by Hausa Wikitionary women in collaboration with long-existing women editors with the aim of creating a transformative women's impact on Hausa Wikitionary within the Hausa Wiktionary community and the broader digital landscape for the Hausa language in Hausa Wikitionary through workshops, meetings, and gatherings. Our main goal is to change the platform from a passive reflection of potential gender biases to an active, inclusive, and equitable space that consciously promotes women and feminist discourse by following the Universal Code of Conduct UCOC and Wikimedia policy, making sure that Hausa Wikitionary has full participation and inclusion of women in the Wikimedia movement focusing on women-related content in Hausa Wikitionary, with a hope and a strategic plan to expand to Wikipedia, Wikivoyage and Hausa Wikimedia movement at large.
The specific changes we are trying to bring are as follows
· Representation and inclusion: We want to bridge the gap under representation of women in Hausa Wikitionary by uniting Wikitionary women editors through meetings, online events and workshops, during workshops We will try as much as possible to create words related to women in promotion of women and their gender, to ensure those words are created with full meaning with referencing, this project will reflect women's experiences in Hausa Wikitionary. For example, words like "sarauniya" which means (queen) should be created to provide balance with that of “Sarki” which means King, women-related words should also be created in large numbers in the Hausa Wikitionary to help women's social relationships and gender equality with their male counterparts.
· An Inclusive and Diverse Editor Community: We also aim to significantly increase the number of active female editors and feminist-identified contributors to Hausa Wiktionary, focusing mainly on editing Hausa Wikitionary, or editing Hausa Wikipedia or Hausa-related projects within the Wikimedia ecosystem. Bringing a diverse contributors base will ensure varied perspectives and sustainable change in the Hausa Community. · Elevation of Feminist Consciousness in Hausa Wikimedia ecosystem: As we plan to develop feminist vocabulary, we will also provide linguistic resources to women in the Hausa community to focus on different angles of Hausa Wikitionary for gender equality discourse. This will enable women editors and women users to articulate and advocate for gender justice, inclusion, and participation.
Ultimately, the project seeks to develop a dictionary creation for Hausa, ensuring it serves all speakers equally and becomes a tool for empowerment rather than perpetuating stereotypes.
This project targets connected issues that are hindering gender equity in the Wikimedia preservation focusing on Hausa Wikitionary to develop Hausa Wiktionary languages on women's feminism, the problems are stated below in detail.
- Participations: the project seeks to provide adequate participation of women in the Hausa Wikitionary.
· Gendered Definitions: Focus on Words for women creating a relational status for words related to women. · Pejorative Terms: Negative words related to women may lack proper context or bias flagging.
· Problem 2: Gender Participation Gap in Hausa Wikimedia Community. Women's underrepresentation is both a cause and an effect.
· Lack of Outreach: No initiatives in Hausa Wikitionary that are targeting women for training and mentorship, through this project we are trying to create an effective outreach among women. · Unwelcoming Environment: Unwelcoming for women in Hausa Wikitionary as those editing gender-related topics are discouraged from diverse participation.
· Problem 3: Lexical Gaps in Feminist and Women-Centric Terms. There is a lack of documention on modern terms for women's health, rights, and roles, including professions, women's health, and other aspects of women's women-related content.
For us to address these problems and achieve our targeted goals, we propose a multi-faceted project suggesting the following planned strategies;
Phase 1: Feminist Lexicography and Audit: Reviewing existing word entries related to women and gender to identify biases and gaps. · Reach out and surveys: Survey to gather data and information from women editors within the Hausa Community that will help us shape the possible road to advocating for women.
Phase 2: Feminist Edit-a-thons: We will organize virtual and in-person editing marathons focused on women-related words among women editors at Hausa Wikitionary. · Training Workshops: Conduct Hausa-language workshops to train new contributors, emphasizing bias awareness, that's we will create two pairs of training in this project. · Mentorship Program: Pair experienced editors with new female contributors for guidance and support.
Phase 3: We would develop guidelines for gender-neutral definitions and stereotype avoidance in the Hausa community. · Page Improvement: improve edits and enhance at least 200 high-priority word entries with women-related pictures, audios, and videos where necessary. · New Word Entries: The project seeks to create new word entries for women's health, professions, and feminist concepts, including definitions, pronunciation, and examples adhering to the Wikitionary guidance for word entries.

As women contributing to Hausa Wikitionary we are trying to bring change in Hausa Wiktionary to bridge the gap of lack of women participation and inclusion and to prevent gender bias, we planned the following activities to achieve our goal and objectives.
1-Women campaign: this is the first step for the project where we would create a campaign across Wikimedia to appropriate Hausa channels to register women and have them onboarded for future trainings and gatherings, with the purpose and vision of bringing changes to women, as well as eradicating problems related to women's bias. 2-Feminism gatherings and meet-ups: followed by online meetings on two different occasions to deliberately discuss the potential way forward for women's participation and inclusion, each of the two meetings will have a theme, topic of discussion, and problems to be raised to look for a solution. 3- Women workshops and trainings: After the two consecutive meetings followed by trainings and workshops, the training will take place twice a month for effective skills acquiring and for a better time taking to implement background for women in Hausa Wikimedia focusing on Hausa Wikitionary this time around. 4-Outreach to women editors on wiki: We planned to reach out to different women editors editing Hausa Wikitionary whom we know and those we don't know, by identifying user contributions and user pages, this time around women will be contacted to get them united under one umbrella with the same goal the same vision on Women's participation and inclusion. 5-Survey and blog post: we would create a survey using survey tools that will help collect data after the two trainings, and after the two meetings, this survey will gather inputs and opinions of different women that will help us shape the women's movement in Wikimedia at large. 6-Social media campaign on Women editors: We planned to create a campaign for women on social media handles using pliers and dedicated pictures that will promote women's movement from Hausa Wikitionary. 7-Collaboration with women from other Wikimedia: the project seeks to reach out to at least 5 different active women across Nigeria to discuss and obtain information that will help build an active and effective women movement in Hausa Wikitionary. 8-Building a foundation for Women editors: part of all the planned activities is to build an effective foundation in which every woman from Hausa Wikitionary will get support and comfort towards contributing accordingly.

Fatyutea0803505: I will be in charge of planning of the project and organizing, delivering training sessions. I have been part of numerous organizing team of Hausa Wiktionary implemented projects in the past.
Hauwa Abdulrazak : She is an active participant in several Wiktionary events, She will be in charge of organizing sharing information outreach, training and documentation to all participants both online and offline.
Fatima Shuaibu: she will be in charge of welfare, technical support and assist in reviewing words entries among other functions.

Our target participants are Hausa speaking women both new and existing contributors within the Hausa Wikimedia community , especially those interested in language development, digital participation, and gender advocacy. And Female student ,especially those studying linguistics, Hausa studies, or gender studies.
After the project, we will keep following through social media handles, mentorship by our team members, tracking their edit contributions with event dashboard. This will help them stay appraised and be active as part of Hausa wikimedia community and contributing to Hausa Wiktionary words content.

We aim to identify and understand the social, cultural, and digital barriers that prevent women from contributing effectively to Hausa Wiktionary and other Wikimedia projects. This includes learning how factors like language accessibility, digital literacy, and gender bias influence participation. By organizing workshops, mentorship programs, and edit-a-thons, we want to learn which approaches most effectively attract and retain female editors. This learning will help design future Wikimedia programs that are more inclusive and sustainable for women. We hope to gain experience in building and documenting best practices for creating women-related and gender-sensitive entries on Hausa Wiktionary. The project will teach us how to strengthen women’s networks within the Hausa Wikimedia community. We expect to learn how collaboration and shared leadership among women editors can transform Hausa Wiktionary into a more inclusive and supportive environment. We aim to learn effective methods for tracking and measuring the impact of women’s participation and content creation over time. This will guide us in designing a sustainable model for continuous female engagement even after the project ends. Finally, we hope to learn how to connect feminist perspectives with digital language preservation in Hausa. This will help us understand how feminist digital participation can enrich both the Hausa language and the Wikimedia ecosystem as a whole.
