Part 1 Understanding your work[edit]

1. Briefly describe how your proposed activities and strategies were implemented

We started the activities with a promotional video (documentary) on Fulfulde Wikipedia giving its overview and explained how it works and the outcome of it/the result was even beyond the expected. The video clip posted on the Fulfulde Wikimedia Community's page went viral on Twitter and got over 1,000 impressions. And while we posted that video documentary, we also embark on the offline promotional campaigns reaching out to the targeted communities, peoples and individuals were our main focus being creating awareness about Fulfulde Wikipedia and trying to persuade the audience on becoming part of the participants during the edit-a-thon. One important thing we did was that we visited each of the communities on their local market days and that has giving us the advantage of taking beautiful photographs as planned in the proposed activities and reaching to people of even other communities as well. After the outreach campaigns, we moved on to holding the editathon were we trained the participants how to edit Fulfulde Wikipedia articles and how they could create new ones by translating contents of English Wikipedia. It was following the editing workshop that we released the second video in order to keep reminding the participants of the steps and processes they need to follow in creating/editing the contents on Fulfulde Wikipedia. We also have the documented video been broadcast on air at Sakiraabe Media; a news organization devoted to broadcasting news in Fulfulde language.

2. Were there any strategies or approaches that you felt were effective in achieving your goals? Please describe these strategies and approaches.

Yes, the impact of that video documentary was so effective in both rising the interest and giving a clear view of what Fulfulde Wikipedia is all about and also in promoting it to reaching the group of individuals who were unaware of its existence.

3. Please use this space to upload media and other files that help tell your story and impact.

4. To what extent do you agree with the following statements regarding the work carried out with the support of this Fund? You can choose “not applicable” if your work does not relate to these goals.

Our efforts during the Fund period have helped to...
A. Bring in participants from underrepresented groups Strongly agree
B. Create a more inclusive and connected culture in our community Strongly agree
C. Develop content about underrepresented topics/groups Agree
D. Develop content from underrepresented perspectives Strongly agree
E. Encourage the retention of editors Strongly agree
F. Encourage the retention of organizers Strongly agree

5. Is there anything else you would like to share about how your efforts helped to bring in participants and/or build out content, particularly for underrepresented groups?

Our strategy and efforts of visiting the targeted communities of Jajere, Kolere and Jama'are on their market days was because of the fact that we knew so many Fula people from both remote rural areas to villages and towns will gather for the buying and selling. It was a unique and promising strategy that we gave it a try and were so happy with the result because it led to growing number of page views increase of the Fulfulde Wikipedia.

Part 2: Your main learning[edit]

6. In your application, you outlined your learning priorities. What did you learn about these areas during this period?

1. This project helped us to learned that audio/visual contents are great tools to help boost the growing of Fulfulde Wikipedia pages views and volunteers.

2. We were also able to learned that a distance can hinder some people from attending the training if it's not going to happened within their community. This problem was faced especially with the women were there participation was very much less during the held physical editathon.
3. We also learnt that the produced videos were capable of increasing the number of Fula Wikipedia contributors.

7. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences?

Yes, we were happy to have had some discounts when making the payment for the video production services of the documentary. We also got discount from the food/drinks related expenses.

8. How do you hope to use this learning? For instance, do you have any new priorities, ideas for activities, or goals for the future?

We hope to implement the strategy of using the produced videos in the future as a pre-event campaign to draw the attention of the people to the activities we planned to carryout.

9. Documentation of resources: Use this space to upload any documents that would be useful to share with others (e.g. communications material, training material, presentations).
