Grants:Programs/Wikimedia Community Fund/Rapid Fund/Hausa Community:Vox pop interview (ID: 23642202)/Final Report
Application type: Standard application
Part 1: Project and impact
1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
Well! For the first time, we try something new a new approach. The Vox pop Interview. Meeting people in the streets and getting their first hand experience.
Firstly, We interviewed people on the Streets of Kaduna state, and we were able to interviewed 106 people and we get to have 49 people that comes to the 2 physical events organised. And we also have 48 both new and existing editors that contribute to the project and that join the Dashboard.
Secondly we were able to produce, 3 videos. Ranging from one the experience of People about Wikipedia. Where we asked them what they know about Wikipedia and how they use it. In the video we cut some of the responses of the participants due to time limitations of the video.
We usually asked did you know Wikipedia? If the answer is yes then we will asked you how you used it. If the answer is No. Then we will explain Wikipedia to you and how you can be an editor.
The other video is also the same, but from different day, different place and different set of people.
The third video is a clear call on how to register and also contribute.
We also create a video that we share during the on online events on how to make edits on Wikipedia, how to translate articles and how to add reference.
The most Effective Approaches, in this project is physical events, the streets interview approach as it gives us the holistic idea and experience on what people know about Wikipedia and how they used it. People that shows in at the physical events show more interest and commits to the project more.

Part 2: Learning
4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: 1. How effective vox pop (interview) and social media campaign is? 2. What our community knows and misunderstood about Wikipedia? 3. How effective influencer can contribute to this campaign?
1. We truly learn that, it's through direct communication and meeting people live. You will get to fully understand their experiences. We can only achieve and understand that by the virtue of this Vox pop. It's very effective to get people's views and understand them.
2. According to the people we interviewed, we can say 50% knows about Wikipedia and used it mostly to get information and some of their studies work done. And also 50% does not know about Wikipedia at all. We can also say 8to 10% knows that they can edit Wikipedia and it's people like them edit Wikipedia and provide all the information in it.
3. We could not work with influencers on this project. Due to the fact that we experience some budget cutting while funding the project so we have to make some necessary arrangements as the influencer are asking alot. Almost more than half of the project funds. So that's why we did not work with them.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
THE SURPRISES
Well! First of all, we experience funds cut during the project funding this comes as a surprise. As Nigeria is facing hyperinflation at the time. This comes as a surprise to us. But we adjust the budget to suit the project.
We did the project only In Kaduna state, but we have a strategic approach to it we waited for the Sallah time as it's around during the project funding. Theses helps us get holistic views from people across many states in Kaduna as many people visit Kaduna during Sallah time. Sallah is usually seen as time for visitation. So as we manage the funds we explore this approach.
One of the positive surprises is the time of the project comes exactly around Eid times this gives us armful advantage during executing the project.
Secondly, our photography experience a minor Accident, sustaining minor injuries along Abuja Kaduna- Kano road. He also lost his phone, Camera during the accident. That's why we lost almost all of the pictures taken at the 2 physical events.
WHAT WE LEARN.
1. We learn more about resources management and been productive with what's at your disposal.
2. We also learn to take advantage positively to certain situations.
3. We learn to used many alternatives, eg in this case we would have snap with our phones too that would have give us an advantage to secure our photos.
This project really open our eyes. As we learn a lot and understand that every project is an opportunity to learn and get better .
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
We have already share some of the learnings and results with the community via WhatsApp. As we also share the dashboard to the group.
We are also planning to share, the compiled results and learnings on Wiki. And also create a Diff about it possibly.
