1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Flooding and erosion is something that is getting worse in the Northern part of Nigeria. In 2022, there was the worst flood in Northern Nigeria which resulted in loss of crops, destruction of roads, destruction of houses and even loss of life. There is a lack of awareness about Climate Change among the people of northern Nigeria. The purpose of this program is to create awareness about climate change and explain the rights that are necessary among the community to protect the environment. This program will participate in the campaign #WikiForHumanRights Campaign that is held every year with the aim of representing Hausa Wikipedia to produce quality articles in Hausa Wikipedia which are related to the theme of this year's campaign Right to a Healthy Environment.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
  • To create and improve articles related to climate change and environment in Northern Nigeria
  • Creating awareness for the community about Climate Change.
  • Creating awareness for Hausa Wikipedia editors about how to improve the articles related to Human Rights and climate change.
  • Creating Effective articles about Human Rights and climate change.
  • Involve the Hausa Community in the Action for Human Rights 2023 campaign
  • To train the Hausa Wikipedia editors how to create quality articles to Wikipedia
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

Awareness and workshop

We will host Awareness and Workshop where we will invite experts in environment and human rights to participants about climate changes and their right to protect environments. I will also invites experience editors to educate the participants on how to create good articles about Climate Change in Hausa Wikipedia.

Contest

We will compete by creating the best essays in Hausa Wikipedia on Human Rights and climate change. We will invite the Wiki for Human Rights 2022 International contest winner and the Hausa Community Organizer to explain to us how the competition will be and he will lead the jury team.

Online Training

We will do online awareness in which we will share articles related to climate change on social media to aware other people about Climate Change in Northern Nigeria. Also, this program will generate more viewers in Hausa Wikipedia.

5. Do you have the team that is needed to implement this proposal?

Yes i have the team,

  • Two lectures from Ahmadu Bello University, one is environmentalist and another one is human rights activist. Everyone will volunteers to discus about what they are expertise at.
  • Yusuf Sa'adu, Hamza DK, and M Bash Ne will help manage the project, they will teach the participants in how to create an article in Wikipedia. And Gwanki who conducted such a program in 2021 and 2022, and he is the second prize winner of the Wikiforhumanright international contest 2022 will be a consultant. And he will lead the online training and jury team.

Target participants are Hausa Wikipedia editors, I will reache out to them via Social media especially WhatsApp Groups. I will create a WhatsApp group where I will follow up with them during contest and after all the projects.

All Wikimedia friendly space policy will be summarised during the events.
