Part 1: Project and impact
[edit]1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)
We conducted various activities aimed at enhancing Hausa Wiktionary, as the primary goal of the contest is to create comprehensive Wikitionary Guidelines pages that will assist, direct, and guide Wikitionary editors when editing Hausa Wikitionary. Throughout the contest, editors adhere to the Wikimedia Wikitionary universal guidelines for Wikitionary editing. The contest achieved the goal of collecting a large number of words in Hausa Wikitionary. Hausa Wikitionary editors compete to improve Wikitionary in the Hausa language while adhering to Wikitionary's editing guidelines and competition rules. This lead to educational opportunities for participants and content contributions in the language's structure and cultural context, and a variety of language authenticity Training sessions both in person and online were carried out that help participants improve their Hausa Wiktionary editing skills to contribute effectively. We make use of different approaches to achieve our goal, a campaign was developed and implemented throughout the community by contacting existing editors in the Hausa Wikitionary community and current number of Hausa Wikitionary editors, whom we have trained and mentored for participation. Editors were provided with necessary information, resources, support, appropriate skills, and capacity-building engagement that help them rapidly expand Hausa Wikitionary. To solve the difficulty of editor retention, we implemented some initiatives. Such as regular check-ins, virtual meetups, and establishing dedicated communication channels via WhatsApp to provide continuous guidance and support. lastly the first five runners-up receive gifts, awards, certificates, and recognition to boost their morale and retention.
