- 1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.
We want to introduce Wikidata as a useful method for describing library materials to Enugu State University Library. Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Library has not been introduced to any Wikipedia project. The NGO, Literacy for Sustainable Living Nigeria (LSLN) has through the University Librarian secured the approval of the Vice Chancellor to introduce Wikipedia projects to the University. Introducing Wikipedia projects to the university has a lot of benefits to the university. For instance, it will create visibility for physical library materials in the library by directing traffic to them. ESUT will be mentioned among the libraries where Wikimedia activities are taking place, and staff and students will gain more research, collaborative skill, and digital skills.
- 2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
Education, information, and training will be our main strategies for achieving this. The Wikimedia training Libraries at https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/training will be adopted for the training. Already the university Library is aware of this project and is expecting it with enthusiasm. It will be a two days event. The University Library computer laboratory will serve as the venue for the training. Users, Ngozi osadebe, Ezimoo and Beatrice Ewa, Wikipedia event organizers at Nnamdi Azikiwe Library and Surplus People in the Universities Research Group (SPURG), University of Nigeria, Nsukka will deliver the content. It has been the wish of the University Librarian Dr. Ifeanyi Ezema that the library should key into new developments in the librarianship field by collaborating with Wikimedia to make knowledge freely available.
- 3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?
We will be celebrating the Wikidata 10th birthday anniversary with the Library Staff of ESUT through a two-day workshop. The workshops will be based on hands-on training on creating Wikidata entries. Books on Women and the African continent will be selected from the library collection for the training. Already, library staff has been assigned to this task. The library computer laboratory has been identified to serve as the venue of the training. The training will be delivered by Ngozi Osadebe User: Ngozi osadebe, Ezinne Njoku User:Ezimoo and Beatrice Ewa User:Beatrice Ewa.. We will set up the outreach dashboard to monitor participants' contributions to the project. Attendance and movement registers will also be used to monitor attendance and participants' movement during the program. Pre- and post-training questionnaires will develop and used to evaluate the impact of the workshop on the participants.

- Dr Ngozi Osadebe User: Ngozi Osadebe is versed in implementing Wikimedia programs. She is the organizer of Nnamdi Azikiwe Library Art and Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon, SPURG art and Feminism Wikipedia edit-a-thon, Aflia #1Lib1Ref program, and the campaign organizer of the “Let’s make Wikipedia edit-a-thon inclusive. Ngozi has been organizing Wikipedia events since 2017.
- Ezinne Njoku User: Ezimoo, is a facilitator in all Wikipedia projects at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. As a special needs librarian, she has worked on different online training programs for the blind.
- Beatrice Ewa, User: Beatrice Ewa is the Climate change librarian in the Climate change special library, UNN. She has organized many projects for the African Climate Change Initiative (ACCAI) UNN. Among these projects are ACCAI World environmental Day seminars and World Cleanup Day events. User: Beatrice Ewa is a co-organizer in the all University of Nigeria, Nsukka Wikimedia projects.

During this project, Wikidata entries will be created for books on women and the African continent. Few works on women and the African continent has been documented on Wikipedia and its sister projects. The result is that very few information is available on women and the African continent. This project will help to minimize the knowledge gap that exists in these areas.

The participants are library staff of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT). Currently, discussions are going on among the staff on creating Wikidata entries for library materials. The URL of the Wikimedia training library on Wikidata available at: https://outreachdashboard.wmflabs.org/training/wikidata has been made available to the participants to study in preparation for the training. After the training, a WhatsApp group of the participants will be created. Through the WhatsApp group, participants will be notified of future Wikidata events and other information from the Wikimedia foundation. Efforts will be made to create a Wikimedia community in the Library to enable the library to organize Wikimedia activities on the library under the supervision of LSLN

Copies of the UCOC and Wikipedia-friendly Space policy will be made available to the participants through email before the training starts. The USOC and friendly space policy will also be discussed with the participants first thing on the first day of training. The NGO’s culture of less use of titles in public meetings should be called in to enable free communication among participants and to ensure that nobody feels intimidated.

This project has been announced on the WhatsApp platforms of all university library-based Wikimedia groups in South East Nigeria. These are the NAU academia Fan Club led by Adaora Obuezie, IG Wiki Librarian Hub led by Goodness Ignatius, Nnamdi Azikiwe Library (NAL), and Surplus People in the Universities Research Group (SPURG) the University of Nigeria, Nsukka WhatsApp groups. (NAU stands for Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka). This project has been discussed extensively with each group's leadership. The group leaders have agreed to send volunteers to help deliver the project.
