The aim of this project is to raise introduce and raise awareness of Wikimedia projects to the Federal College of Wildlife Management] community among the students, librarians, academic and non academic staff to promote active participation in contributing to Wikimedia projects. Many members of the college community believe that contents of Wikimedia projects are generated by machines or robots and that the information they provide is static and unchangeable. The project will promote awareness of how to contribute and use Wikimedia projects, especially for research purposes, generating interest and inspiring participants to learn how to enhance the content of these platforms. We aim to create sustainable Wikimedia communities within the institution. We will train students and staff on how to contribute to these projects and provide a platform for them to come together to discuss the challenges they face while contributing to Wikimedia projects and to find solutions to these issues. This project will help attract more academics to open access/knowledge initiatives and contribution of quality encyclopedic contents and GLAM (history, culture, tradition, languages, and valuable images) to Wikipedia and Commons to enhance the visibility (openness) and access to information. The overall plan and focus is on the college community, the main targets of this project will help recruit and increase the participation. We will partner with the Fulfulde Community and Hausa Wikimedians User Group to ensure the sustainability of the project.
