Through this program, we aim to engage a new generation of Wikimedians in Kashkadarya, one of the largest regions of Uzbekistan with a population of nearly 4 million. There are approximately 1,000 neighborhoods and villages in Kashkadarya; however, only 66 articles (6.6%) about them exist on the Uzbek Wikipedia. Our goal is to reduce this gap through the Kashkadarya Regional Program.
Villages and neighborhoods in Kashkadarya are underrepresented on the internet, despite a sufficient amount of reference materials available in printed books at the Central Library of the Region. The library administration has agreed to provide free access to these materials if our proposal is accepted.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
Day 1: We will gather the workshop participants and teach them practical, live lessons on how to create an account on Wikimedia, how to edit and create articles on Wikipedia, and how to upload media files to Wikimedia Commons.
Day 2: Participants will create articles about the neighborhoods of Kashkadarya, using references from the Central Library of the region.
Day 3:We will visit historical sites and notable landmarks in Shakhrisabz. Participants will take numerous photos during the photowalk. In addition, there is a historic and notable village called Miraki, which has a history of over 2,000 years. Although Shakhrisabz itself boasts a 2,700-year history and is one of the landmarks included in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it remains underrepresented on both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. We are going to reduce this gap through the program.
Day 4: Participants will upload the media files to Wikimedia Commons and add them to relevant articles on the Uzbek Wikipedia. Additionally, 10 participants with strong English skills will translate articles from Uzbek into English.
After the workshop, we will organize an edit-a-thon among the participants that will last for one month.

First of all, we will announce the workshop and open the application form. In addition, I plan to collaborate with local government departments to help select participants for the workshop. For example, the Regional Department of Education is ready to provide a list of school and university students who are passionate about spreading free knowledge. Furthermore, the Regional Department of Youth Affairs has agreed to voluntarily provide a large monitor and laptops, which will be ideal for the practical sessions during the workshop. The workshop itself will be promoted on-wiki through publishing CentralNotice banner in Uzbek, Karakalpak, Russian and English for any users from Uzbekistan.
Although the Kashkadarya Wiki Club currently has only a few members, we plan to invite all workshop participants to join the club and encourage them to take part in future events.

Learning and metrics
[edit]- 17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)
First of all, I am well aware that although there are sufficient reliable sources about the neighborhoods and villages of the Kashkadarya Region, only 2–3 Wikimedians from our region are currently working on this content, and we cannot manage to create all the necessary articles on our own. According to our plans, participants will be selected from all 16 districts of Kashkadarya. After the program, they will establish local district WikiClubs in youth centers and continue to run projects, contributing actively to Wikimedia projects. I believe this program will serve as the starting point for our long-term involvement in the Wikimedians of Uzbek Language User Group.
