6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

Kelantan-Pattani Malay is widely spoken in Kelantan state of Malay, and Pattani region in Thailand, yet the language has not reached the official level since it’s usually in spoken form.

The change that we are trying to bring is to spread awareness of the importance of Wikipedia in minority language (Kelantan-Pattani Language) to provide free knowledge for everyone, to guide how to edit pages on Wiki projects and to involve the public to preserve the regional language through the projects.

The challenges are how to actually attract people to contribute in Wikimedia Projects, especially in this case Kelantan-Pattani Malay Wikipedia. Even after a guidance being held, people eventually do not contribute at all after it even though they do have information on how to edit or create pages on Wikipedia. Also, we want to encourage people to invite more and more people about the existence of Wikipedia. Also the language has multiple writing systems and doesn't have unified orthography, making the reading material in the language very rare.

So, the strategies are: 1. Provide the community with awareness of the importance of Wikipedia, and preservation of the local language (which is Kelantan-Pattani Malay). 2. The workshop starts small-scale, involving Islamic Education Campus Teacher Education Institute (IPGKPI) students, collaborating with other Wikimedia’s club (IIUM Wikimedia Club), also providing them with some goodies and a booklet that contains tutorials on how to edit a page, which requires costs. This is important as people would want what they get after a program. The collaboration is to ease how the program is being held, besides to tell the participants how the club plays the roles in developing the Wikimedia project. Eventually, the awareness would grow if the workshop was successful. 3. Spread the accessibility of Wikipedia by organizing programs that provide guidance on how to edit articles or pages in it. For example: Jju Wikipedia held Jju Wikipedia Outreach (https://w.wiki/Hav4) that involved participants; the Wikipedia has its consistency that it has approved recently. 4. To reach consistency, encouragement is required from participants. Competitions will boost it, so the participants have to reach a certain target to get prize provided by the facilitator, e.g. Betawi Wikipedia held a competition (https://w.wiki/HavU) that the participants who reach a certain target would get a certain prize. This also would be applied to participants who could invite the most people. Thus, the prize has 2 categories, the top contributors and the most invited people about this Wikipedia. 5. Therefore, meetings will be held 6 times, once a month so that participants can be taught from time to time, in addition to maintaining the community's active contribution.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

The planned activities are: 1. Invitement: to invite more participants as possible, to create account for new users 2. Workshop: to guide participants how to edit or create in Wikipedia, e.g. content translations into Kelantan-Pattani Malay Wikipedia (Incubator) 3. Competition: to encourage participants in editing pages, and inviting more people (basically follow up after workshop)

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

• AMIR MUSLIM (Wikimedia username: Mirlim (https://w.wiki/HfWg) - would lead the project to ensure proper project implementation from start to finish and to ensure timely submission of reports.

  • SYAHMI SYAHIRAN (Wikimedia username: Syahmisyahiran28 (https://w.wiki/HfZh) - would provide learning support to the participant and assist in account creation for the new participants.
9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

The target is the native speaker of Kelantan Malay that resides at Bangi, Selangor, Malaysia. The engagement would be achieved by introducing Wikipedia before the activities occurred, then by guiding the participants how to contribute to it. The follow up would be by creating a Whatsapp group so the participants could refer if any, also would be planning for the next workshop to other communities.
