Kusaal Wikimedia Community/Translatewiki.net

Q. Indicate if it is a local, international, or regional proposal and if it involves several countries? (optional)

Q2. If you have answered regional or international, please write the country names and any other information that is useful for understanding your proposal.

R. If you would like, please share any websites or social media accounts that your group or organization has.

1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

We want to build a full language support for the Kusaal Wikipedia incubator, create more articles and localization of Wikipedia and sister projects by translating all the most important MediaWiki which serve as one of the requirements for a new language Wikipedia request. We want to build the foundation that the Kusaal communities may leverage on to start new projects in future. We want to introduce new editors in the Kusaal Wikimedia Community to Wikimedia projects such as Wikipedia.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.

We will do so by; Recruiting new editors for Kusaal Wikipedia incubator Introduce members to the basics of Wikipedia Training new editors to translate the most commonly used words in the Kusaal language. Increase skills for existing editors

3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

We will be organizing online and offline training workshops to equip the community with the skills they will need to be able to participate in translations.

We will use this project as an opportunity to translate all the most commonly used mediawiki messages into Kusaal on Mediawiki using translatewiki.

We will invite interested groups and organizations to participate in as translators or advisors. We will reach out to students and teachers who are currently learning or teaching the Kusaal language.

The goal of this community is to bring to limelight Kusaal language through the Kusaal Wikipedia incubator and to work towards getting live on the wikimedia projects. Translating messages on Translatewiki would go a long way to localise the user interface of the Kusaal Wikpedia so that editors in the Kusaal language can edit articles, communicate and relate very well with Kusaal Wikipedia and on other wWikimedia projects.

Recruited editors will trained via online and in-person sessions. Training of editors will be done via online and offline.

These communities are presumably very new to Wikimedia projects and less than 5% of the speakers have heard of Wikipedia as a tool to promote, digitize and revitalize languages via its sister projects.

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?
