The current project highlights the comprehensible and challenges posed by the problem of lexical variation in the Hausa language as follows:
1. Regional orthographic differences like in (British English: ‘colour’/ American English: ‘color’)
2. Variant vocabulary (e.g. lift and elevator – chips and fries)
3. Word choice based on the context of which it’s used.
These variations often lead to:
- Confusion among learners and users of the Hausa language
- Inconsistencies in written and spoken forms of the language
- Practitioners having a hard time understanding terminologies that are specific to a given context
To tackle these challenges the project will do the following:
1. Document and catalogue: usage of different lexical variants – regional and contextual
2. Celebrate lexical variants and provide the context of each
3. Provide concisely illustrated regional language lexicons to alleviate people from word variations
4. Provide a room for contributions so that users can fill in the gaps or mistakes
5. Create an easily retrievable source of variant details
By addressing these challenges the project seeks to:
- Foster an understanding and communication of the language
- Assist language learners and users
- Foster coherence and clarity in language used in writing and speaking
It is in this spirit that Wiki users will be able to feel the impact of the change in Wiktionary aiming at widening the scope of coverage of lexical shifts which will serve to benefit language users.

In terms of this project, “Lexical Alternatives: A Guide to Word Variants in Hausa”, it coming activities have been outlined as follows:
Research and Content Creation:
1. Find and make lists of different lexical variants (regional, contextual, and vocabulary differences)
2. For each variant researched, write explanations, examples of usage, and notes of the context in which each will be required
3. Sort out categorical variants (geographical, topological, grammatical types, etc)
Wiktionary Integration:
1. Add new entries under the lexical variants observing the guidelines provided in Wiktionary
2. Enhance current entries by adding variant information on them
3. Compose housing for the uniform appearance of the variants
Community Engagement:
1. Work with editors and linguists specialists of the Wiktionary concerning feedback and content
2. Work with language learners and users for feedback and testing
3. Self-delivery of the project ideas through discussions and forums in Wiktionary.

- El-hussain14 , is an experience editor that organize and facilitate several event. He is from Northeast Hausa speaking region.
- Dr. Salisu Sani, Researcher, with a specialization on language/linguistic area from Department of Hausa, College of Education Katsina. He will represent the alternative words used in Hausa and method of used (Contractor)
- Malam Hassan Muntari B.sc Hausa, from Ahmadu Bello University (A.B.U) Zaria he is a Linguistic Expert and resident native speaker of Hausa language. He will be talking about the regional alternatives that are in Hausa (Contractor).
- Mrs. Mariya Isma'il Senior Staff at Government Day Secondary School Dutsen Kura, a professional class teacher, She will lectured on regional spells differences, Variants vocational, (Contractor).

The target participants of this project are the editors of Hausa Wikipedia and Wiktionary in particular those with an interest in language linguistics and lexicography. This includes: - Editors With Long Experience and Have Edited Language Articles And New Editors Ideate Within The Language , Editors With Different Language And Region Backgrounds.
Use of Participants before activities:
With regard to the targeting of participants, we shall make an announcements on Hausa Wikimedians User Group on WhatsApp.
Participants during activities: In the case of the activities we will Conduct online regular workshops and edit a thons in order to generate and debate content – Collaborate through various platforms, Google docs to give and receive feedback on the work done – Participate in discussion sessions and question and answer sessions in order to interact with the audience

This project is a collaborative work with Hausa Wikimedians User Group We contacting two co-founders Mustafa Aliyu User:Em-mustapha and emailed Ammar Abdulhamid to Support the collaboration of the grant ,and other members in our Hausa Wikimedians User Group Whatsapp. I also discuss about the proposal in our Hausa Wikipedia Discussion Page, Facilitators from different region willing to contribute.

4. To provide for user inputs to bridge the gaps and errors
5. To ensure easy access of the sources related with the details of the variants
