As a Wikimedia Community, we've noticed something that needs fixing. African women are hardly represented in the data and content on our platforms, especially in indigenous languages like Likpakpaaln. We have noted that this isn't just a gap, but also a missed opportunity. Giving the Wikidata’s influence on how we discover knowledge online means these gaps can make it even harder for African women's stories to be heard.

However, the Art+Feminism 2026 campaign is giving us a chance to change the narrative. With the theme of this year's campaign, "What would a truly feminist internet look like?" focusing on structured data, we can combine our passion for feminism with our love for indigenous languages. We aim to showcase Likpakpaaln, which is one of the Ghanaian indigenous languages, as a legitimate and powerful medium for representing global knowledge. By enriching Wikidata with Likpakpaaln-language content and expanding Wikipedia articles on African women, we challenge the linguistic biases and broaden access to diverse perspectives. Our community is leading this charge, leveraging our local knowledge and growing experience in Wikimedia projects to shine a light on African women.

We'll be creating and improving Wikidata items and Likpakpaaln Wikipedia articles about women in art, music, politics, chieftaincy, and agriculture. Through workshops and edit-a-thons, we'll add valuable data and descriptions in Likpakpaaln, making sure these women's stories are told in our own language.

Participants will include experienced editors, new contributors, and first-time editors from the Likpakpaaln Wikimedia Community, with special emphasis on women and youth. The project will strengthen local capacity to document African women’s knowledge, increase Likpakpaaln-language content on Wikimedia platforms, and support sustained feminist contributions beyond the grant period.

We believe that the outcome of these efforts will be a more inclusive, feminist, and multilingual internet. We also believe that the impact of centering Likpakpaaln in the global knowledge systems will promote diversity and bridge information gaps on African women.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Learning and metrics

[edit]
17. What do you hope to learn from your work in this project or proposal? (required)

Here are some of the Learning Questions the project aims at; 1. How does adding indigenous-language (Likpakpaaln) descriptions on Wikidata and articles on Wikipedia affect the visibility and accessibility of African women’s knowledge online? 2. What skills do community members gain in structured data and Wikipedia articles creation, feminist documentation, and Wikidata editing through this project? 3. How can community-led approaches strengthen the sustainability of feminist data contributions beyond the campaign period?

The qualitative data we will also be considering to determine the success of the change are that when; 1. There is increased confidence and capacity of Likpakpaaln Wikimedia Community members to contribute to Wikidata and Wikipedia independently 2. Participants give us feedback that demonstrate improved understanding of feminist knowledge gaps and structured data 3. There is evidence of indigenous Likpakpaaln language use as a legitimate medium for global knowledge representation.
