Part 1: Project and impact

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

This project was implemented in accordance with the activities outlined in the original proposal, and the following key outputs were completed: 1. Production of a documentary video on traditional Alakui preparation A video documenting the preparation process of Alakui, a traditional Pazeh food, was completed. The video presents the practical steps and cultural context of the process. Subtitles primarily use Pe̍h-ōe-jī (Romanized script) with a limited amount of Pazeh language, allowing younger audiences and non-Pazeh viewers to understand the content while being introduced to basic Pazeh language elements. The video has been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under an open license. 2. Wikimedia Commons Documentation of the 2025 Pazeh New Year celebration and upload of over 50 photographs to Wikimedia Commons The 2025 Pazeh New Year celebration was documented through video and photographs. More than 50 representative photos were curated and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, contributing to the diversity of content related to Indigenous peoples in Taiwan and providing openly accessible resources for cultural and educational use. 3. Creation and upload of over 100 Pazeh entries on Wiktionary The project team compiled and reviewed linguistic materials and uploaded more than 100 Pazeh lexical entries to Wiktionary. Each entry includes definitions and example sentences to support practical learning and usage. At this stage, only a limited number of entries include audio recordings, while most entries focus on text and examples. Nevertheless, the structured creation of these entries establishes a solid foundation for future expansion, including the gradual addition of audio materials. Overall, the project successfully completed the main deliverables specified in the proposal, focusing on visual documentation, lexical content creation, and open publication on Wikimedia platforms, while laying the groundwork for continued development.

Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below:

In the application, we identified several learning questions. Through implementing the project, we gained the following insights:

The effectiveness of multimedia content for Pazeh language and cultural preservation Strategies for engaging Pazeh community members in Wikimedia projects The feasibility and limitations of Wikimedia platforms as tools for preserving and sharing Pazeh cultural memory Wikimedia平台在開放性、可見度與長期保存方面,確實提供一個具潛力的公共空間,讓巴宰文化與語言能被更多人看見並再利用。

Future use of these learnings

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During the implementation of the project, several unexpected and surprising situations emerged, both positive and challenging, which became important learning experiences. A positive surprise: visual content generated more understanding and engagement than expected An unexpected challenge: preparing language data, especially audio, required more time and resources than anticipated Insights on community engagement: cultural motivation mattered more than technical skills

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

The learnings and results of this project have been and will continue to be shared with other community members through the following approaches:

Sharing practical experiences through a workshop

Feedback and exchange within the Pazeh community and related networks

9. Did you have any difficulties collecting data to measure your results? (required)

Yes

9.1. Please state what difficulties you had. How do you hope to overcome these challenges in the future? Do you have any recommendations for the Foundation to support you in addressing these challenges? (required)

Yes, there were some challenges in collecting data to measure the results of the project. First, the main outputs of this project consist of open cultural and language content such as videos, photographs, and lexical entries. The impact of this type of work is largely long-term and qualitative, including increased cultural visibility, improved learning usability, and strengthened community recognition of cultural preservation. These outcomes are difficult to fully capture through immediate or single quantitative indicators within a short project timeframe. Second, while Wikimedia platforms provide basic statistics such as upload records and page views, it is challenging to collect detailed data on actual usage contexts (e.g., educational use, community learning, or reuse) or user backgrounds within the project period. Additionally, some aspects of language preservation work, such as the gradual addition of audio materials, are inherently incremental and long-term. As a result, at the time of reporting, the data mainly reflects completed uploads and content creation, rather than the full long-term impact. These challenges helped us recognize the importance of combining quantitative indicators (such as content counts and platform records) with qualitative feedback (such as community responses and usage experiences) in future projects to better understand and present project outcomes.
