Many Nigerians use the internet daily, but public awareness about Wikipedia editing remains very low. This project aims to bridge that gap by conducting a vox pop (street interviews) across Lagos, asking everyday people what they know or think about Wikipedia. By filming and sharing these conversations, we will:

1. Spark public curiosity and discussion about Wikipedia.

2. Create social media content to increase local awareness.

3. Invite interested people from the street to join a free Wikipedia training workshop, turning awareness into real participation.

Our main approach to achieve this:

1. Vox pop filming: Interview people across diverse parts of Lagos, asking what they know about Wikipedia.

2. Content creation & social media: Produce short, engaging videos from these interviews and share them widely online.

3. Direct call-to-action: At the end of each video and during filming, invite interested people to register for an in-person Wikipedia training.

4. Training & mentoring: Organize a free beginner editing workshop for those who sign up, then support them to start contributing.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

1. Planning & preparation Identify 4–5 high-foot-traffic locations across Lagos (e.g., Ikeja, Yaba, Lekki, CMS).

Develop a set of simple interview questions (e.g., “Have you heard of Wikipedia?”, “Do you know you can edit it?”).

Prepare branding and materials (t-shirts, banner, mic flag) to make the project recognizable.

2. Vox pop filming

Conduct short street interviews with less than 100 people from diverse backgrounds.

Capture authentic views and spontaneous reactions to Wikipedia.

3. Editing & content creation Produce 2–3 short, engaging vox pop videos (2–3 minutes each).

Add subtitles and branding to make them shareable and accessible.

4. Public awareness campaign Share the videos on social media platforms popular in Nigeria (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X).

Use catchy captions and hashtags to spark conversations about Wikipedia.

Include a clear call-to-action in each post like “Interested in learning how to edit Wikipedia? Join our free workshop!”

5. Wikipedia training workshop Organize an in-person beginner workshop in Lagos.

Train 30–50 new participants recruited through the vox pop and social media posts.

Guide them to create or improve articles about Nigerian topics.

8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

1. Psalmbusy - Project lead and professional cinematographer and content creator 2. Reading beans - Trainer in helping facilitate the training. 3. Jongeed; professional cinematographer. 4. Comradeayobami: Social Media Assistant

9. Who are the target participants and from which community? How will you engage participants before and during the activities? How will you follow up with participants after the activities? (required)

1. General public in Lagos (through street interviews).

2. Social media audiences in Nigeria.
