1. What is the change that you are trying to bring about and why is this important.

Niger Republic Wikimedians user group is a new user group that's is the process of development, a development through compaign and awareness to have members that will volunteer in building The user group to be recognized as an affiliate, as well as to enroll people from Niger Republic to the Wikimedia movement. The change we are trying to bring about is to involve Niger Republic people into the movement as mentioned, thereby recruiting new participants, training and grooming them to become active contributors with better experience, this is important to have volunteers contributing to open knowledge thereby saving the world from information inadequacy. This project will be carried out through promotional campaign and awareness both online and offline, so that to make the people of Niger Republic understand the use Wikimedia active s, output/input contribution into Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons and Wiktionary, engaging them will help to build their skills that will improve information in Wikimedia movement at large. Wikipedia campaigns has never been taken place in Niger Republic, therefore, this project will bring the change of knowing Wikimedia movement effectively. In this campaign, new users will be recruit , while the minimal number of existing users will be taken along to help in volunteering. Additionally, articles that are less improved will be developed through this project and new articles will be created as part of this project.

2. Describe your main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes and why you think they will be effective.
  • Recruiting 100 new editors across different states within Niger Republic. This will allow full participation of peoples from different states within Niger Republic.
  • Promotional campaign on social media channels to reach relevant communities.
  • Creating awareness on Wikimedia projects among participants in Niger Republic. Many of the participants may be familiar with Hausa/English Wikipedia but few are aware of other existing languages Wikipedia especially the Hausa Wikipedia as well as other Wikimedia products that promote free knowledge and open access to information enhancing the need for this approach.
  • Participants will be train on contribution skills to various Wikimedia projects, a training that will focuses on; creating Wikimedia accounts, understand the core content policies, and understand general editing principles, performing minor edits among others to improve content about people, places, organizations of Niger Republic on Hausa/English Wikipedia, Wikidata, and Wikicommons.
  • Giving out prizes to top 7 contributors as incentives to motivate them at the end of the campaign.
3. What are the activities you will be developing and delivering as part of these approaches or strategies?

The main activity is the Edit-a-thon after the Trips.

Activities to be carried out are as follows:

  • Online promotional campaign using fliers and videos in social media channels (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram).
  • Trip: we will organize a walking awareness trips in different streets and roads, to promote Wikimedia, This will give us the opportunity to enroll people to the upcoming training session Edit-a-thon. Pamphlet will be shared to people in the streets.
  • Edit-a-thon- we will organize a training to register and mentor users on how to edit and contribute in Wikimedia Projects.
  • Content creation during Workshops.
  • Wikimedia sister projects detail explanation.
  • Niger Republic Wikimedians user Group building, sustainability and development growth to Wikimedia movement at large.

Yes, I Bajoga2021 will lead this projects with the help of Binmaleeek as facilitator, other Wikimedians will be included to help in seeing success of this project.

The project is aimed at promoting and making awareness of Wikimedia projects to the people of Niger Republic, so it will be an encouragement if articles related to locality are improved during the course of the project which will help give a way to the new potential recruit editors grabs their opportunity to edit content they are most familiar with, that's article related to languages.

We are targeting people from Niger Republic, people that speaks Hausa and English as a first or second language. We will engage participants by enrolling them during Trip/compaign to participate in Edit-a-thon we intend to carry. We will have their phone numbers, emails, usernames, contacts, WhatsApp group is created to keep on training them and to answer any questions their have in mind that help in improving their editing skills

10. In what ways are you actively seeking to contribute towards creating a safer, supportive, more equitable environment for participants?

The General friendly space policy for Wikimedia events will be summarized and to be read at the beginning of each event to remind the participants and the organizers of the importance of a friendly space policy.We will adhere to the Wikimedia-friendly space policy during the event. Participants may not necessarily have the skills as they are new but I believe that most of them will bring smartphones, laptops, and other supportive devices that will help in carrying out this project.

I aim to learn how to coordinate and manage participants within Niger Republic environment in the activities of Wikimedia movement, and to build Niger Republic Wikimedians user Group with them. How to effectively improve content gaps on Wikipedia and its sisters project. I hope to learn from participants to enhance Niger Republic engagements and priorities skills that improve contributions of editors as well as sustainability of new editors in various Wikimedia strategies. To see whether the project can grow the Niger Republic Wikimedians User Group by adding new fresh Editors.
