We are striving to revitalized, document, and digitally preserved the Nupe language

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nupe_language) and culture on Wikimedia platforms.

The community carried out several projects such as:

(https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/%22Translatewiki.net_in_Nupe_Language%22_(ID:_22572221) and

(https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/Nupe_Wikipedia_Awakening:Inspiring_Awareness_and_Incubator_Advancement_in_Niger_State,_Nigeria_(ID:_22446264) which lead to recent approval from the Language Committee (Langcom) as seen:

the Nupe Wikipedia project has gained recognition, but much work is needed to build a sustainable and active contributors network, grow the body of content, and raise awareness within the Nupe-speaking population. Haven gotten our own sites created:

We still need to put more efforts to bring in more women editors and retention of existing editors in our community and include more local folks from yet to reach areas to ensure that our community is giving needed attention in addressing gap when it comes to gender diversity and inclusion of all.

Challenges and Problems:

1. Low Awareness and Participation: Many Nupe speakers are unaware of Wikimedia projects or the opportunity to contribute to the development of Nupe Wikipedia.

2. Participants find it difficult to navigate the Nupe Wikipedia when it was in the incubator stage, but with the recent approval navigating it will be easier.

Approaches to Achieve the Change:

1. Community Training and Capacity Building: We will be organizing trainings, followed by edit-a-thons, to equiped participants with skills in Wikipedia editing, translation, and content creation in Nupe Wikipedia.

2. Content Creation and Improvement: We will focus on developing high-quality, reliable, and culturally relevant articles in Nupe Language.

3. Mentorship and Community Growth: We will create an online and offline for mentorship where experienced contributors support new editors, ensuring sustainability and knowledge transfer.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

During this period we aim to host a total of 7 editathons/trainings: Three (3) would be aimed at recruiting new editors. We will give emphasis to involving a reasonable number of female partcipants. The other four (4) edit-a-thons would be centered toward capacity building trainings to our participants. This will help in ensuring proper measure is taken in editors retention.

Breakdown:

1. Intervals between each training and the next would be 3 weeks i.e, after every one training there would be three weeks of contributions and engagements from the facilitators before we would host another training, the same goes to the subsequent trainings up to the last one.

2. We will engaged in a capacity building to horn their skills and increase their knowledge and understanding of how Wikipedia works and how they can effectively contribute to it. This would also give us the opportunity to address any challenges or concerns they may have during this time.

3. Newly recruited members would have continous supports and engagement for six months nonstop from general community activiities and that would help them in skills development and in getting use to Wikipedia editing as well as having to meet with the existing editors and make friends for forming a harmonous environment. The overall activities would be 7 events with 4 aim at capacity building and engagement enrichment and 3 aim at recruiting new editors and addressing gender diversity and inclusion. Two (2) from the total events will be online and the remaining five (5) physical trainings.
