The number 6 of the United Nations (UN), Sustainable Development Goals (SGD's) is clean Water and Sanitation. Thus clean water, sanitation and access to water is very important in our lives.

Nigerian Constitution recognized the right to water and sanitation. Most people in Nigeria do not have access to clean water, especially in the rural areas. The Global water sanitation and hygiene statistics shows that 79% of Nigerians go through challenge of water scarcity. In 2015 in Nigeria 60 million people lacked at least access to 'basic water' as for Sanitation only 33% of the total population had access to at least basic Sanitation. This was 39% of the Urban population and 27% of the rural population. Approximately 122 million people still lacked the access to at least basic Sanitation.

Recently in 2023 there has been a flood in Nigeria that stopped transportation across the Northern and the Southern part of the country which leads to a massive negative effects and price hike of goods, services and commodities due to flood that effect the Kwara and Kogi state bridge that link the Northern and the Southern Nigeria. This leads to fuel hike in Northern Nigeria and foodstuff hike in Southern Nigeria. This floods is as a result of Climate change and lack of proper awareness of community sanitation and lack of proper information available to educate the communities.

Recently this year before the raining season our community finds it very difficult to have access to water even at the big cities in the urban areas, due to climate change and lack of proper Water Sanitation this lead to girls and women disproportionately affected by the burden of fetching water and inadequate menstrual health and hygiene at home and school. Poor water access sanitation hygiene (WASH), services in health facilities which put mothers and newborn at risk. Rapid population growth and Climate change compound the WASH challenges which need to be addressed to ensure no one is left behind. In our community, one of the key challenges and problem resulting to flood, and in accessibility of water is the dump of waste and dirt to the water line, small rivers and community building along water roads. This is a clear example of lack of proper awareness on the dangers and consequences of these actions. Lack of proper maintenance of our Dams is also one of the key challenges of water crisis and flood.

It's observed that, in this year alone 2024 at the early days and months of the raining season, the water fall short, this leads to lack of water as we mentioned earlier even in the big cities in the northern Nigeria and now towards the end of the raining season there's almost rain everyday that causes floods and breaks of Dams that destroyed lives and properties. And the community lack basic information and knowledge to effectively used the rain to their advantage in terms of clearing drainages and proper maintenance of small rivers and dams. This is also a clear effects of climate change and alots needs to be done to educate and informed our community in other to help save our earth. Thus this we think this project is very crucial to our community as we can see there are floods within this year alone in almost all of the 19 northern states in Nigeria. After a careful study we recognize that, Floods are not been fully covered on the Wikimedia project especially Wiki Commons Thus we intent to covered the recent most horrific experience in the northern Nigeria ranging from The Borno Flood, the Bauchi Flood and the Kaduna- Zaria flood in the Northern Nigerian. We intent to photowalk these states in other to document the floods to the Wikimedia project. Also there's a very wide gap of information missing in our community about Water and Sanitation. As important as the area is, article in our community (Hausa Wikipedia) about water and sanitation are non existence. Even though there are large volume of articles on water and sanitation in English Wikipedia. Therefore and awareness need to be done to ensure those articles are created/translated for the better consumption of our community due to language barrier of English in most cases. So we will like to create those articles on Wikipedia as Wikipedia is one of the reliable and free access to information in the world and one of the key means of getting reliable information in our community. We will take an advantage after the photowalk we will be having A photo-a-thon to upload the photos and an Editathon Workshop to create the missing articles on Water Sanitation and hygiene that's missing in Hausa Wikipedia.

Looking that the projects need expert. We collaborated with the Kaduna state WaterBoard Authority located in Malali Kaduna for this project as this projects requires expert from the field to talks to the participants and audience during the online camping and the workshops. And also contribute their quarter to seeing the success of this campaign and project by bringing their experience. Also we get contacted by their mother agency in Kaduna, Kaduna State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (KADRUWASA).
