Edit-a-thon and Awareness campaign aimed at bridging the knowledge gap and promoting representation of Queer individuals in the realm of art and culture on Wikipedia. This event marks a pioneering effort in our community, bringing together artists, activists, and Wikipedians to create a more inclusive and diverse online encyclopedia.Change We're Trying to BringThe proposed edit-a-thon and awareness campaign seeks to address the underrepresentation of Queer individuals and their contributions to art and culture on Wikipedia. By doing so, we aim to increase the visibility of Queer artists, writers, and cultural icons, provide accurate and comprehensive information about Queer art and culture, foster a sense of community and collaboration among Queer individuals, artists, and Wikipedians, and contribute to a more inclusive and diverse Wikipedia that reflects the experiences and perspectives of marginalized communities.Challenges and Problems We're Trying to SolveThe lack of representation of Queer individuals and their contributions to art and culture on Wikipedia is a significant issue. The existing content on Wikipedia related to Queer art and culture is often incomplete, inaccurate, or biased. Furthermore, the Queer community has limited opportunities to engage with Wikipedia and contribute to its content. This edit-a-thon and awareness campaign aims to tackle these challenges head-on.To achieve our goals, we will organize a two-day edit-a-thon and one- day Aweerenes campaign where participants will gather to edit and create Wikipedia articles related to Queer art and culture. We will provide training and support to participants on Wikipedia editing, with a focus on best practices and guidelines. Additionally, we will engage with local Queer organizations, art collectives, and cultural institutions to recruit participants and promote the event. During the edit-a-thon, we will encourage participants to create new articles, translate, expand existing ones, and improve the quality of content related to Queer art and culture. Experienced Wikipedians will be paired with newcomers to provide guidance and support. The awareness campaign will run parallel to the edit-a-thon, utilizing social media platforms to raise awareness about the importance of representation and diversity on Wikipedia. We will share engaging content, personal stories, and facts about Queer art and culture, highlighting the need for accurate and comprehensive information on Wikipedia. The campaign will also aim to mobilize the Queer community and allies to participate in the edit-a-thon and contribute to Wikipedia.By hosting the "Queer Art, Queer Voices" Wikipedia Edit-a-thon and Awareness campaign, we expect to see a significant increase in the number of Wikipedia articles related to Queer art and culture, as well as enhanced quality and accuracy of content. We also anticipate a growing community of Queer Wikipedians and allies who are engaged in creating and sharing knowledge. Ultimately, this initiative will contribute to a more inclusive and diverse Wikipedia that reflects the experiences and perspectives of marginalized communities, serving as a model for future edit-a-thons and community engagement initiatives. The awareness campaign will also help to raise awareness about the importance of representation and diversity on Wikipedia, inspiring further action and engagement from the Queer community and beyond

The first two days of the project will be dedicated to the Edit-a-thon, where participants will gather to edit and create Wikipedia articles related to Queer art and culture. We will provide training and support to participants on Wikipedia editing, with a focus on best practices and guidelines. Experienced Wikipedians will be paired with newcomers to provide guidance and support, and participants will work together to create new articles, expand existing ones, and improve the quality of content related to Queer art and culture. On the third day, we will host an Awareness Campaign event, featuring a panel discussion on the importance of representation and diversity on Wikipedia. The panel will include Queer artists, activists, and Wikipedians, who will share their experiences and perspectives on the need for accurate and comprehensive information about Queer art and culture on Wikipedia. We will also promote the project and its goals on social media, using hashtags and tagging relevant organizations and individuals. The project team has partnered with local Queer organizations, including the Queer Art Collective, Queer Youth Group, and Queer Cultural Center. These partnerships will help to promote the project, recruit participants, and provide resources and support for the project team. We will work closely with these organizations to ensure that the project meets the needs of the local Queer community and that the content created during the Edit-a-thon is accurate and relevant.Throughout the project, we will prioritize community engagement and outreach, working to build a community of Queer Wikipedians and allies who are engaged in creating and sharing knowledge.
