6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)

The University of Ilorin College of Health Sciences is a renowned medical campus in Nigeria with a student population of about 4,000 and a doctor population of 250.

As a medical student at this institution, I've noticed that many medically related articles on Wikipedia lack adequate citations. Using the Citation Hunt tool, I aim to address this gap and help create a vibrant Wikimedia community within our college.

The Wikimedia Community at Unilorin College of Health Sciences (and the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital) will serve several important functions. Primarily, it will enable medical professionals—such as doctors, nurses, medical scientists, anatomists, physiologists, physiotherapists—and students in these fields to learn how to edit and reference Wikipedia properly. Over time, this will contribute to improving the quality of medical information available on Wikipedia.

Since Wikipedia is a key resource for medical researchers, enhancing the accuracy and reliability of its references will ultimately lead to higher-quality research globally.

Additionally, this project will provide an opportunity to establish a solid Wikimedia community on campus. Through it, I will raise awareness about Wikipedia and dispel the myth that only select individuals can contribute to the encyclopedia.

To ensure the sustainability of this project, the Unilorin College of Health Sciences Wikimedia Community will be established to support new editors, ensuring they have the resources and guidance needed to contribute effectively to Wikipedia and its sister projects.

7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.

Precampaign preparation: This includes developing a list of medical articles requiring citations but using the Citation Hunt tool. This will be made available to new participants

Patnership with libraries: This will involve partnerships with the Hospital Library and College Library to use their resources and facilities for this project

Raising awareness: through physical visits to lecture rooms, consulting rooms, faculties and departments, laboratories, restaurants, campus relaxation centers, distribution of flyers and pasting flyers on the notice boards

Online onboarding: Interested students and professionals will register via Google link after which they'll be adding to an already existing group of interested participants. A Zoom call will be held to introduced Wikimedia and the project to them. Account creation will also be handled online before the physical meetup

First physical meetup: To ensure accounts have been properly created. The purpose of 1Lib1Ref will be properly explained. Participants will receive hands-on training on how to edit Wikipedia, how to add citations and how to create new articles

Feedback and Review Meeting: Challenges and reviews will be taken from participants in an online meeting and addressed before or during the second physical meet up.

Second physical meetup/edit-a-thon: A second physical meetup to address any issues new editors might face. We will add as many citations as possible to reach our goal

Awarding Edit-a-thon: The Edit-a-thon will last for four weeks after the top 5 participants will be awarded with certificates and Merch.

Creating a Wikimedia Community: The WhatsApp group will become the base of our operation as the Unilorin College of Health Sciences Wikimedia group. Social media channels (X, Instagram) will be created too. This will ensure this project remains sustainable.
