Through SheSaid 2026 in Indonesia, we aim to increase the representation of Indonesian women in Wikimedia projects, with a main focus on Wikiquote and additional support through Wikimedia Commons. The change we want to bring is not only to increase the number and quality of quotes by and about Indonesian women, but also to strengthen women’s participation, confidence, and skills in contributing to open knowledge.
The main challenges we seek to address are the low participation of women in Wikimedia projects, the limited availability of quotes by and about Indonesian women on Wikiquote, and the lack of safe, supportive, and inclusive learning spaces for women contributors. Many Indonesian women from various fields, including culture, education, arts, activism, and local communities, remain underrepresented on open knowledge platforms. In addition, online harassment, lack of confidence, limited technical skills, and unequal access to digital resources can prevent women from participating actively and safely in open digital spaces.
We also want to support women in developing local and regional-language content. Indonesian regional-language Wikiquote projects, such as Javanese, are still developing and need more skilled contributors. By helping participants first build confidence and editing skills on Indonesian Wikiquote, we hope they will be better prepared to contribute to regional-language Wikiquote projects in the future.
To achieve this change, SheSaid 2026 in Indonesia will use a layered approach: online training, local Wikiquote workshops or meetups in eight cities, mentoring, a national editing challenge, and regional-language Wikiquote breakout rooms during the closing class. Participants will be supported by trainers, local organizers, moderators, and volunteers. Their contributions will be monitored through the Outreach Dashboard and Fountain. The expected impact is an increase in content about Indonesian women on Wikiquote and Wikimedia Commons, stronger participation and retention of women contributors, greater visibility of Indonesian women’s voices in open knowledge, and the creation of safer and more inclusive learning spaces within the Wikimedia ecosystem in Indonesia.

Planned Activities SheSaid 2026 in Indonesia will be implemented through a series of online and in-person activities to increase women’s participation in Wikimedia projects and enrich content about Indonesian women on Wikiquote and Wikimedia Commons.
1. Launching and Online Training The project will begin with open registration and an online opening session to introduce the campaign goals, timeline, participation guidelines, and expected outcomes. This will be followed by two SheSaid online training sessions, assignments, and participant assessment. Selected participants will be prepared to support local activities as trainers or local organizers.
2. Knowledge Transfer and Local Workshops Selected participants and alumni will join knowledge transfer sessions before supporting local implementation. Wikiquote #SheSaid workshops or meetups will be held in eight cities with support from local trainers, moderators, volunteers, and partner communities.
3. Editing Challenge and Closing Session The project will include a SheSaid Wikiquote editing challenge to encourage participants to add and improve quotes by and about Indonesian women. Submissions will be assessed by local judges using Fountain. The project will close with an online session featuring winner announcements, participant reflections, and discussion on continued contribution.
4. Documentation, Monitoring, and Publication Activities and contributions will be monitored through the Outreach Dashboard and Fountain. Project documentation and results will be shared through the Wikimedia Perempuan Community’s social media channels and, where possible, Wikimedia Diff.
Partnerships The project will be organized by the Wikimedia Perempuan Community in collaboration with Wikimedia and local communities in Indonesia, including communities involved in SheSaid 2025 in Indonesia. It will also work with Wikimedia Indonesia-supported communities and like-minded organizations in each city to support implementation, expand outreach, and create safer, more inclusive spaces for women to learn and contribute.

Really Rin – Project Manager Responsible for overall project coordination, including the implementation of SheSaid Classes and the SheSaid Challenge, financial management, reporting, and coordination with partners and local communities. She is an active volunteer and the community liaison of the Wikimedia Perempuan Community. She is also active in the Wikimedia Medan Community and contributes to several Wikimedia projects, including Indonesian Wikipedia, Wikiquote, Wikimedia Commons, and other Wikimedia projects. Her previous experience includes being selected as one of the top seven participants in SheSaid 2025 in Indonesia, serving as project assistant for Karo Culture: A Living Archive on Wikimedia, joining the Wikimedia Indonesia Dana Wiki grant team for WikiSamosir 2025, and leading the Wikimedia Indonesia Dana Wiki grant project WikiBarus 2024. 2. Astari28 – Project Assistant and Training Material Developer Assists with project coordination, administration, planning, documentation, and reporting. She also contributes to designing the SheSaid classes, developing training materials, and supporting the lead trainer during class implementation and participant mentoring. She is an active volunteer of the Wikimedia Perempuan Community and contributes to Indonesian Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikimedia Commons, and other Wikimedia projects. In addition to the three core team members, the project will be supported by five event liaisons or moderators from the Wikimedia Perempuan Community, who are also members of other Wikimedia communities. Before the activities, participants will be reached through open announcements on the Wikimedia Perempuan Community’s social media channels and communication networks. The project will also continue collaborating with Wikimedia communities and local communities in Indonesia that were involved in SheSaid 2025 in Indonesia to support participant outreach and encourage wider participation. Registration for the SheSaid classes, workshops, and editing challenge will be open and inclusive. The project will also begin with an online introductory session to introduce the campaign’s objectives, activity flow, participation guidelines, and expected outcomes.
During the activities, participants will be able to join online training sessions, Wikiquote workshops or meetups in eight cities, and the SheSaid editing challenge. They will be supported by the main trainers, local trainers, moderators, and volunteers. Participants’ contributions will be monitored through the Outreach Dashboard, while the editing challenge will be tracked using Fountain.

For SheSaid 2026 in Indonesia, the project idea was discussed mainly within the Wikimedia Perempuan Community through internal and external community discussions. This year, we did not hold a formal planning meeting with Wikimedia Indonesia as in the previous year. Instead, Wikimedia Indonesia will be contacted by email for institutional support, especially if an official support letter is needed for local partners. The project design builds on feedback from Wikimedia Indonesia during the previous SheSaid implementation. Their suggestions have been considered in planning SheSaid 2026, particularly for coordination, participant outreach, local implementation, and documentation.
Community discussions focused on the activity format, local workshops, participant outreach, and regional-language Wikiquote contributions. We also gathered input through a poll on which regional languages should be included in the SheSaid 2026 editing activities and breakout rooms during the online closing session. Supporting documentation will be provided in a document containing community meeting notes and screenshots of the related discussions.

We hope to better understand the barriers that limit Indonesian women’s participation in Wikimedia projects, such as limited digital access, unequal domestic responsibilities, lack of confidence, limited technical skills, and insufficient community support. Through this project, we aim to identify these challenges and explore practical ways to address them.
We also want to assess how effective the SheSaid classes, local workshops, mentoring, editing challenge, and regional-language Wikiquote breakout rooms are in increasing women’s participation and continued contribution. Lessons learned from SheSaid 2025 in Indonesia, including reflections shared through the 2026 Open Education Conference Lightning Talk “Bridging the Gap Between Learning and Contributing: Women in Open Knowledge,” will also be used to strengthen the design and implementation of SheSaid 2026, especially in capacity building, newcomer support, participant mentoring, and women’s leadership in Wikimedia projects.
The three main learning questions are: 1. How many quotes by and about Indonesian women are added to Wikiquote, and how many photos or images are uploaded to Wikimedia Commons? 2. How effective are the regional-language Wikiquote breakout rooms in helping participants learn and contribute in their local languages? 3. What support do new women contributors need to feel confident and continue contributing after the project?

We will use several tools to measure the project outcomes. The Wikiquote project page will be used to share registration information, document activities, and track participants. The Outreach Dashboard will be used to monitor participation and contributions from the SheSaid 2026 classes and local workshops. Fountain will be used to collect and assess participants’ submissions for the SheSaid editing challenge on Wikiquote. We will also use Google Forms to collect participant registration data, reflections, and feedback. Zoom or Google Meet will be used for online sessions, discussions, and the closing event.
