We have successfully organised the Wiki Loves Women SheSaid for the past two years,[1][2] creating awareness on gender Equality and amplifying the voices of women within Hausa communities. Last year, we were able to achieve a huge amount of contributions (1921 articles created/improved [3]) through SheSaid activities that reaches many people.[4] However, there is still work to be done, gaps to be filled, voices yet to be heard, and mindsets yet to be changed (positively towards women), and spirits (of women) to be uplifted. This year, we plan on creating bigger event, reaching wider audience and making larger contributions.
Challenges
- The Northern part of Nigeria is said to be known for its cultural and ethnic biases that some times limits the ability of women to speak and live freely.
- There is local indigenous Hausa Women who have made significant contributions in Hausa but are still yet to be covered
- There are still areas within Hausa communities that are yet to be reached
- There is need for more collaborations and partnerships in order to achieve the SheSaid goals
- There is discontinuity in terms of edits on Hausa Wikiquote. Most of our editors only make edits during the SheSaid campaign period, and stop after the contest has ended. This makes it difficult to be approved as a Project from Incubator (even with the large number of contributions)
- There are works of local women writers, singers, poets, politicians etc who are yet to be acknowledged and/or celebrated
Perceived Solutions
- We will help amplify the voices of women by inspiring them to learn more about Gender Equality and that there voices matters via the SheSaid campaign
- We will search for prominent local women's voices (quotes) and document them on Wikiquote
- We will focus more (this time) on reaching to remote areas within Hausa communities where Wikimedia is not popular and invite the to join the #SheSaid (either online or offline)
- This time, we will focus more on creating partnership with ICT oriented institutions (like KADICT and KSITM) to foster effective collaboration and to retain editors
- We will carry out multiple trainings and workshops, inspire newbies to join the Wikimedia Community (the largest Encyclopaedia), and engage them actively throughout the SheSaid period (September to December)
- We will acknowledge and celebrate some achievements attained by local Hausa Women and portray them as a symbol of excellence and motivation to the audience.

We have 2 years experience in organising the Wiki Loves Women SheSaid campaign. We have identified areas of improvement to make this year's event more exciting and effective. We plan to achieve this through the following steps:
A. In-person events and partnerships
- We will be organising 2 local events in 2 different locations; Kaduna and Katsina
- We will collaborate with our already existing partners; National Association of Women Journalists, Jam'iyyar Matan Arewa, and Women in Politics
- We will form new alliances with KATDICT and Katsina Institute of Technology to carryout the SheSaid campaign. (they are likeminded institutions were we can breed active newbies).
B. Online events and reach-outs
- We will create 3 online workshops and trainings on Zoom - 1 opening online event, 1 during the campaign and 1 closing event
- We will invite guest speaker from the Wiki Loves Women Team to share experience with participants
- We will advertise the campaign via SheSaid flyers on our social media handles and Wikipedia Talkpages
C. Follow-up and Surveys
- From the survey conducted after the previous #SheSaid in 2024, it was observed that newbies prefer participating in contests as it spur motivation and give the purpose. We will therefore organise mini contests after the event to retain participants and office hours to keep in touch
- We will create surveys to learn more about there experiences with the campign

Partners: We have previously worked and partnered with some Women Organisations like National Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Kaduna Chapter, Organisation of Northern Women (Matan Arewa), Women in Politics (WIP). This year we will expand our scope and create more partnerships with ICT oriented organisations in Katsina State.
