The Change we are trying to bring.
The Swahili SheSaid Campaign 2024 aims to bring about significant change by enhancing the representation and visibility of Tanzanian business and political women on Wikiquote. This initiative seeks to celebrate and recognize the achievements and contributions of influential women in Tanzania,by ensuring that the voices and stories of these remarkable women are heard, celebrated, and shared with the world.
Main challenges or problems we are trying to solve.
1. Underrepresentation of Women: Despite the significant contributions of women in various sectors, their representation on platforms like Wikiquote remains disproportionately low. This lack of representation contributes to the marginalization of women's achievements and voices.
2. Gender Bias: Existing content often reflects gender biases, with more emphasis on male figures. This campaign aims to address and reduce this bias by highlighting the impactful roles of women in Tanzania's development.
3. Lack of Accessible Information: Many notable Tanzanian women, especially those in business and politics, lack adequate recognition in accessible digital archives. This project will make their contributions more visible and accessible to a global audience.
4. Promotion of Gender Equality: By showcasing the achievements of women, the campaign aims to inspire and empower future generations of women, promoting gender equality and encouraging more women to take on leadership roles.
Change/challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it.
The campaign will focus on writing and improving Wikiquote entries related to Tanzanian business and political women who have been instrumental in driving economic improvement, political advancements, and gender equality. This will create a comprehensive and inclusive digital archive that celebrates their contributions and achievements.
Approaches which we will use to Achieve the Change:
1. Research and Content Creation: Collaborate with local volunteers who have invested and have been working on gender based projects to gather accurate and detailed information about notable Tanzanian women. This will involve conducting interviews, accessing historical records, and compiling existing data.
2. Workshops and Training: Organize workshops and training sessions for volunteers, students, and community members to educate them on how to create and edit Wikiquote entries. This will ensure that the content created is of high quality and adheres to Wikiquote's standards.
3. Community Engagement: Engage with local communities, women's organizations, and educational institutions to raise awareness about the campaign and encourage participation. This will help build a strong network of contributors and supporters.
4. Partnerships and Collaborations: Form partnerships with relevant organizations, such as Buni Hub that promotes women's rights groups, educational institutions which will be university lecturers whom in our previous session two of them attended, and any media outlet that will be crucial to our movements, and this all is to promote the campaign and its objectives. This will help amplify the campaign's reach and impact.
5. Monitoring and Evaluation: Implement a system to monitor the progress of the campaign, evaluate its impact, and make necessary adjustments. This will ensure that the campaign remains effective and achieves its goals.
Wider Change and Positive Impact:
1. Empowerment and Inspiration: By highlighting the achievements of Tanzanian women, the campaign will empower and inspire other women and girls, showing them that they too can achieve great things. This can lead to increased participation of women in various sectors and leadership roles.
2. Enhanced Representation: Improved representation of women on Wikiquote will contribute to a more balanced and inclusive portrayal of history and contemporary achievements. This helps in challenging stereotypes and promoting gender equality.
3. Increased Awareness and Recognition: The campaign will increase awareness of the significant contributions made by Tanzanian women, leading to greater recognition and appreciation of their work both locally and globally.
4. Educational Resource: The enriched Wikiquote entries will serve as valuable educational resources for students, researchers, and the general public, providing accurate information about influential Tanzanian women.
