The Tajik Wikimedians User Group organized a two-day workshop in April 2025 in Dushanbe. On the first day, 18 active users received training on editing skills, community building, and Wikimedia policies. The second day focused on public outreach, held at the National Library, with hands-on editing sessions for new participants. ‘’’ Key results:’’’

Part 2: Learning
[edit]4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: From this project, we hope to learn how well we can train people to become Wikipedia teachers and whether they can then teach others in their communities. We want to see if our workshops help increase participation and improve content on Tajik Wikipedia. We also aim to understand the challenges participants face and how we can better support them. Overall, we want to improve our training and create a lasting way to grow Wikimedia involvement in Tajikistan.
- Training new trainers is most effective when it’s localized—delivering sessions in Tajik by experienced peers helped participants feel more confident and connected.
- Hands-on, practical editing activities were more engaging than lectures; participants retained more when they edited live with support.
- Community-building needs structure—holding a general assembly and electing representatives gave members a stronger sense of ownership and responsibility.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
One unexpected positive outcome was the high level of engagement from participants at the public workshop. Several newcomers expressed interest in becoming long-term contributors, and some even joined follow-up online sessions without being prompted.
A minor challenge we faced was related to limited internet access during parts of the event, which temporarily affected the flow of editing activities. This highlighted the need to have more offline training materials prepared in advance.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
We shared the outcomes and insights from the workshop through a dedicated report page on Meta-Wiki and updates on our Telegram group. Additionally, we presented our experience in person during the Central Asian WikiCon 2025 in Tashkent.
