We found that there is inconsistent content quality in Hong Kong-related articles on Wikivoyage, as the existing articles are largely limited to general overviews and severely lack in-depth information on specific tourist attractions. Secondly, the lack of regular internal gatherings has severely hampered the cohesion and development of the core community. Thirdly, the User Group’s digital marketing has long suffered from resource misallocation and stagnation. Moreover, the lack of dedicated management personnel has become the biggest bottleneck limiting the User Group’s development in the face of increasingly large cross-institutional projects and major competitions.
Therefore, we are planning to host several events and meetings, continue our long-term education project, explore our current outreach partnerships, and recruit a new project-based project manager, to resolve these challenges.

1. “Wiki Loves Hong Kong” Project: A content-expansion initiative to enhance tourist-related Wikivoyage articles. The initiative will include photo walks, structured photography walks covering Hong Kong’s core landmarks to gather high-quality local images using “Freedom of Panorama” legal provisions, as well as a photography competition similar to Wiki Loves Earth. 2. Community meeting: First, there will be regular community gatherings, internal trust-building meetings held once every two months and strictly limited to registered members. Moreover, there will be a “Wiki Curious” training program, flexible registration-triggered workshops held at least twice annually, designed to provide systematic instruction for novices. 3. University edit-a-thons and curriculum projects: Integrate Wikipedia editing workshops directly into university courses by early 2027, alongside practical student content-creation projects with the School of Hotel and Tourism Management. A recurring “Wiki Feminism” edit-a-thon will be held each March in collaboration with M+ Museum, Asia Art Archive, and other partners. A recurring “Wiki Asia Month” edit-a-thon will take place each November, focused on creating high-quality articles. 4. Hire experienced social media operations and graphic design experts on a project outsourcing basis to support our social media and marketing operations, and provide allowances or per diem for volunteer project coordinators to support our upcoming events.

Our target audience will include the general public interested in Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement, especially newcomers, university students, local photographers, as well as the experienced editors in Hong Kong.
We will engage participants through our social media channels, including Instagram and Telegram, as well as via on-wiki noticeboards to reach experienced editors and newcomers. Moreover, we will invite participants who join our edit-a-thons to participate in our upcoming events. We will also create a Telegram group for further communication and as a help desk after the activities.

We hope to learn from our aforementioned activities how should we effectively use our resources to (1) introduce people to the Wikimedia movement, enhancing our knowledge base and pursue the goal of helping everyone share in sum of all knowledge and (2) do that in a sustainable way, that is, guide our newcomers on the correct way as specified by our values and community consensuses, as well as improving the cohesion of the local community of Hong Kong. In other words, we value both short-term benefits (meta-question 1) and long-term benefits (meta-question 2) to our community and the Wikimedia movement as a whole. By the end of the year, we will learn from our experiences this year and enhance the plan of the next to better fulfill the goals.
