1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

During the project, we implemented a variety of impactful activities designed to empower and support trans individuals. Notably, was we successfully training over 20 transwomen, equipping them with valuable Wikimedia skills and resources. Additionally, we organized a vibrant TransVisibility contest that encouraged wide participation and got over 50 Wikipedia articles in 5 languages.

One of the standout achievements of this initiative was the array of collaborations we established. A significant partnership was formed with the Harmony Caregiver Foundation, which enabled us to extend our outreach efforts and effectively connect with more transgender individuals.

Lastly the approach of creating a community of wiki Trans contributors in Nigeria also proved successful. This holistic approach not only enhanced the skills of individual participants but also strengthened community bonds, amplifying our overall impact.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: How to better support trans, non-binary, and intersex persons in Nigeria and across west Africa

I understand that better that supporting Trans, Non-binary and intersex persons in Nigeria means to first create a safe space with them and make them understand the power of telling their own story.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

During the implementation, we encountered several unexpected situations that provided valuable insights.

One surprising aspect was the strong community interest in participating in the project. Initially, we anticipated some hesitance among some trans individuals especially intersex persons due to societal stigma and discrimination. However, many were eager to share their stories and contribute to Wikipedia. This enthusiasm highlighted the importance of safe spaces, support networks and trusted partnered organization

On the negative side, we faced challenges related to access to Laptop and poor internet. Many of the participants do not have a personal computer and hence affected the training days made so many not to contribute or learn well. We also struggled with unreliable internet connections. This experience taught us the importance of providing resources and support beyond just training, including facilitating access to personal gadgets and creating offline materials for those who cannot connect regularly.

Overall, these experiences reinforced the significance of adaptability in our approach. These insights will shape our future initiatives, ensuring we are better prepared to meet the needs of the trans community in Nigeria.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We plan to create a diff to share what we've learned and a meta Wikimedia report.
