In June, 2024 I led the project Wiki and Heaoth articles in Nigeria in an attempt to bridge the health content gap and launch the recruitment of health editors in Nigeria in the wiki space, this was successful as 50 health editors from University of Ilorin Teaching hospital created 50 health articles on wikipedia and 70 images related to health was uploaded.
The report of the project can be find below: https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/Wiki_and_Health_articles_in_Nigeria_(ID:_22444962)/Final_Report
Later in June, 2025 seeing how most of the health editors just got introduced to medical content in the wiki space at the last project and couldn't edit a lot of articles as they needed additional knowledge to do that, the Wiki and Health articles 2.0 was carried out with most of the beneficiaries from the Univesity of Medicine, Ibadan college students including pharmacist, optometrist, medical doctors and microbiologist . At the time of the project, heat wave occured in Nigeria and an article was created about the incidence of wikipedia, which can be find here, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_wave_in_Nigeria , Also there was endemic of diphtheria which was also documented on English Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diphtheria_in_Nigeria. Aside health issues that occurred during the project that were documented on wikipedia, 68 more articles were created and 30 articles already created were were edited by 120 health editors. The detailed report of the project and the diff blog post can be found below
https://meta.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Programs/Wikimedia_Community_Fund/Rapid_Fund/Visibility_of_Health_articles_in_Nigeria_on_English_Wikipedia_2.0_(ID:_22892164) https://diff.wikimedia.org/2025/06/07/the-ripple-effect-of-promoting-health-content-in-nigeria-2-0/
After the last project, The iniative, Wiki Health Africa which is currently undergoing the process of becoming a usergroup was set up for sustainability and to continue the promotion of health content in Africa, as according to National Institute of Health, death from chonic diseases are on rise with non-communicable diseases like diabetes, stroke are still prevalent in Africa. and this is why we will be iniating yet another project which will cover the visibility of health articles in Africa as a whole. This time around, our project will be focused on creating health articles in Africa such HIV/AIDS in Africa African Centre for Global Health and Social Transformation (ACHEST), Rwanda Biomedical Center (RBC), Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) among others. The project will also target uploading pictures of health equipments and facilities in Africa and recruitment of health editors from Africa on wikimedia beyond Nigeria, currently we have 100 health editors however most are from Nigeria, this project will enable other African wikimedians who are health professionals to Join.
Main approaches or strategies to achieve these changes:
1. Physical and Virtual Trainings: As an article for creation reviewer on English Wikipedia, I will train participants on how to identify and improve create notable health articles in Africa . Old editors would be trained how to create notable health articles, while new editors will be shown how to edit as a start. editing will be closely monitored as in previous projects as a new page reviewer to avoid vandalism. Weekly training will also be included in the project to review the quality of edits contributed during the project
2. Edit-a-thon: New editors will engage in basic editing skills like finding citations, copyediting and improving stubs under close monitoring while experienced editors will create new articles which will be reviewed before allowing them to open space.
3. Feedback: Google forms would be created to generate feedback from the participants and their perception towards the Campaign in the form of a survey
These approaches are designed to cater for the specific needs of the community via the already established wiki health platform. To ensure progress and provide assistance, we will utilize the outreach dashboard. This tool will help us track contributions and offer one-on-one support to offline and online editors, further promoting engagement and fruitful participation.

There will be two-day in-person workshops aimed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of Wikipedia. This would be done by three facilitators; myself as an active Wikipedia editor and a new page reviewer alongside two other editors who are active on English Wikipedia.
2. Two (2) series of online reinforcement training: To adequately provide the participants with the necessary knowledge and abilities for editing on Wikipedia. One online facilitator will use the online portions to polish the new editors' flaws and improve their editing abilities.
3. Edit-a-thon:. After the two days of in-person training and the two days of there will be a two-week time for the partici virtual sessions, editors will create new articles while new editors will put their newly acquired knowledge into practice.
