Part 2: Learning

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: The project will develop the capacity of newcomers in three groups White Nile (Kosti) and South Darfur (Nyala) ( 20 PP in-person ) and the global and Online activity (10 pp ). On the one day Training on the basics of Wikimedia commons the participants will get to know how to upload photos and write the description and the structure data of the photo. ) (3 sessions 30 participants) The participants will have a series of training as well as orientation on the theme of the contest and will organize a photo walk to enable them to capture the pictures needed for the contest. ( 2 photo walks and 20 participants with 2 organizers ) After the photowalks the community will have two upload sessions/ edit-a-thon to make sure that the photos are incorporated into the wikipedia articles and wiki data. (3 sessions and 30 participants) As for the more specific training there will be cooperation with professional photographers for implementation of a day of training for Basic photography and photos copyrights targeting 30 participants.

  • Most of the planned activities were implemented successfully
  • The rapid context change in Sudan needed more than one scenarios for implementations
  • Flexibility of the grant enabled us to respond to these changes
  • Engagement of the newcomers in editing uploaded photos helped in highlighting the role of the photo contest which motivate the community members to promote among their network

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

  • Engagement of participants even after the end of the contest
  • High commitment of Nyala -South Darfur team although high cost of connectivity
  • Involvement of second line organizers
  • Designs and materials were late in preparation

  • Presentation will be performed in the Arabic community meeting

Special photography workshops were plan to happen in Nyala and Kosti cities Photowalk in Nyala and Kosti cities also were not implemented The activities were not performed due to security reasons And also, Kosti also the team members were not committed in attending all the planned activities

We suggest training of new users (10 photographers) on Wikimedia commons,

  • upload the photos in theme that support the "from the farm to plate"
  • Description and categorization of the images
