Part 2: Learning
4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)
You can recall these learning questions below: 1/ Use Wikidata efficiently 2/ Connect people across borders and organize people from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds. 3/ Use a microscope for taking pictures. 4/ Involve new editors (beekeepers) in the Wikimedia community. Here is an approach “learning by doing” Beekeepers, who will make the picture, will upload/organize content in Wikimedia infrastructure. I help them to solve some challenges and transfer data. 5/ Develop community in an oppressive country (Belarusian Wikimedians). The activity gives wikimedians and beekeepers in Belarus and from Belarus collaborate and co-create (discussing together, organizing information, making presentations).
1/ Use Wikidata efficiently
- Connected new picture with existing records (taxonomy) in wikidata.
2/ Connect people across borders and organize people from different countries, cultures, and professional backgrounds.
- I tried to involve Belarusian and Ukrainian wikimedians, but without strong success. At least they are informed about the project.
3/ Use a microscope for taking pictures.
- Yes, It helped a lot. It was central tool for picture collection. I also gain experience how to take pictures with this device.
4/ Involve new editors (beekeepers) in the Wikimedia community. Here is an approach “learning by doing” Beekeepers, who will make the picture, will upload/organize content in Wikimedia infrastructure. I help them to solve some challenges and transfer data.
- On the stages of collection pollend and mikroscopic analysis thhree beekeepers participated. On the two rest steps uploading pictures in Wikicommons and adding picture to Wikipedia articles my wife helped me mostly. She is also wikimedian. So, I also developed contacts with Wikimedia Polska and attracted interest of linkedin users.
5/ Develop community in an oppressive country (Belarusian Wikimedians). The activity gives wikimedians and beekeepers in Belarus and from Belarus collaborate and co-create (discussing together, organizing information, making presentations).
- This hypothesis didn't work. As I've already mentioned above. I informed community about the project and several people reacted mostly on the level of "grammar nazi".
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
- Yes, positive surprise was that flower collection and pollen picturing are a very sticky things. The next is that I am experiencing collaboration with Pamylka zine https://www.instagram.com/pamylka.zin/ where I am writing article about pollen and bees base on the pictures I have done in Wikeeper2025
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
After making presentation in English and Polish,
- share it with Polish community (Wikimedia Polska regular meetups),
- with Pszczela Wola (community of Beekeepers in Poland),
and make youtube stream for English speaking watchers (mostly wikemedians).
