- 6. What is the change you are trying to bring? What are the main challenges or problems you are trying to solve? Describe this change or challenges, as well as main approaches to achieve it. (required)
Based on WikiDiplomasi project, we have found that there are many diplomacy-related topics that have not been covered or adequately written on Indonesian Wikipedia. Moreover, emerging diplomacy and international relations topics, such as public diplomacy, commercial diplomacy, and SDGs, while already have good coverage on English Wikipedia are underrepresented on Indonesian Wikipedia. This lack of comprehensive and reliable information limits public knowledge and resources available to students, researchers, and the general public. Furthermore, based on our experience, many Indonesian university students and lecturers lack access to comprehensive resources. Thus, this proposal aims to make Indonesian Wikipedia becomes a trusted and comprehensive resource for information on diplomacy and international relations by improving the accuracy, depth, and breadth of content, thereby supporting educational and informational needs in Indonesia. We will focus on enhancing existing articles and creating new articles on diplomacy-related topics on Indonesian Wikipedia.
To achieve those objectives, our approaches are 1) increasing the quality and quantity of diplomacy-related content on Indonesian Wikipedia; 2) increasing the usage and visibility of diplomacy-related articles by students, educators, researchers, practitioners, and general public; and 3) building a sustainable community of skilled Wikipedia editors dedicated to this subject area.
- 7. What are the planned activities? (required) Please provide a list of main activities. You can also add a link to the public page for your project where details about your project can be found. Alternatively, you can upload a timeline document. When the activities include partnerships, include details about your partners and planned partnerships.
Related to our goal and objectives, our activities are: 1) Conducting a content gap analysis to identify topics/articles needing improvement or creation. We will also hold meetings with key stakeholders (e.g. Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, universities, and local Wikimedia communities) to assess the specific needs and interests of these stakeholders. 2) Organizing a series of briefings. We will conduct online briefings with local Wikimedia communities and partner universities to prepare the Wikipedia training and edit-a-thons in each university/city. 3) Organizing a series of four workshops and edit-a-thons at four universities in collaboration with key stakeholders and local Wikimedia communities. In this workshop, we will conduct a presentation on how to promote a synergy among Wikimedia communities, academia, and practitioners on diplomacy-related topics and a training on how to edit Wikipedia for new contributors. After each workshop, a Wikipedia edit-a-thon will be held. The workshop and edit-a-thon will be held in the same day and each event will be conducted in partnership with local Wikimedia community and university. 4) Organize Wikipedia article competition for diplomacy-related topics. We will conduct online competition to edit and create new Wikipedia articles. A total of 50 participants and 50 new articles are expected to be created during the competition.
To track the number of editors and articles, we will create a Google Sheet for the project with a comprehensive list of articles and Program & Event Dashboard campaign. We will provide incentives to editors who have completed the assignments and rewards to three best editors in each session. After each session, we will conduct an evaluation survey through Google Form.
- 8. Describe your team. Please provide their roles, Wikimedia Usernames and other details. (required) Include more details of the team, including their roles, usernames, Wikimedia group, and whether they are salaried, volunteers, consultants/contractors, etc. Team members involved in the grant application need to be aware of their involvement in the project.

WikiDiplomasi project was first conceived after WikiNusantara 2024 in which I, Kanzcech, participated in the discussion session with fellow Wikimedians. I then proposed the idea to other KlubWiki UB members during our monthly meeting and we immediately created a team to realize the project. During the project we received considerable attention from fellow Wikimedians and even other universities have expressed interests to be involved in the project. Thus, after finishing WikiDiplomasi, we would like to follow up the project by proposing WikiDiplomasi 2.0. We have discussed the proposed project with members of Palembang Wikimedia Community, Jakarta Wikimedia Community, and Denpasar Wikimedia Community to support our project and align ours with their activities. We have also made initial contacts with partner universities, such as Universitas Sriwijaya, UPNVJ, and Unram and align our activities with theirs.
