The WikiForHumanRights Nigeria campaign was successfully implemented through coordinated collaboration across seven Wikimedia communities in Nigeria: Igala, Anambra, Imo, Gombe, Rivers, Osun, and Kaduna. We had two national organizers, we provided strategic leadership, coordination, and technical support to ensure consistency, inclusivity, and impact across all participating communities and a project manager who ensured all activities were in-line with the proposed activities Implemented Activities Each of the seven communities implemented a structured capacity-building program that included: One (1) physical, in-person training

The sessions covered topics such as Wikimedia policies, notability, sourcing, content creation, article improvement, media uploads, data contributions, and collaborative editing for human rights–related topics aligned with the campaign theme.
In addition to trainings, communities organized coordinated editing activities, thematic edit-a-thons, and collaborative contribution drives to strengthen both the quantity and quality of content produced during the campaign period.

Collaborative editing especially on Wikivoyage and human rights topics encouraged peer learning and cross-community contributions.

Emphasis on skills development ensured that participants gained long-term editing capacity beyond the campaign, supporting sustainability.

Reflection on Learning Metrics and Key Findings After reviewing our initial learning questions and comparing them with the data collected, we can confidently say that many of our core learning objectives were answered through the evaluation results and implementation experience. 1. Collaboration and Post Campaign Content Expansion Learning Question:
How well can we collaborate and plan for continued content expansion post campaign?
What we learned:
Seven Wikimedia communities collaborated for the second consecutive year to implement the campaign. This collective approach significantly strengthened coordination, peer learning, and content output. Breaking the campaign into community level implementation allowed local leadership to drive engagement effectively.
Evaluation findings show: 75 percent agreed collaboration among communities was effective
62.5 percent said participation levels met expectations
96.6 percent are motivated to continue contributing
100 percent are willing to participate in future campaigns Key insight:
Collaboration across multiple communities increases reach and impact. However, campaign overlap with other initiatives led to contributor burnout and divided attention.
Decision going forward:
We will avoid running WFHR during peak campaign seasons. We will introduce a structured post campaign plan that includes follow up contests, periodic editathons, and regular community check ins to sustain contributions.
2. Participating Communities and Engagement Levels Learning Question:
What was the level of community participation and engagement?
What we learned:
Seven communities actively participated. Engagement levels were strong, with Anambra, Gombe, and Kaduna showing particularly high participation rates.
Campaign engagement indicators: 94.8 percent found activities engaging or very engaging 89.7 percent expressed overall satisfaction 96.5 percent rated the campaign as well organized
Key insight:
Multi community collaboration enhances momentum and accountability. Community level ownership improves performance.
Decision going forward:
We will continue the decentralized implementation model and strengthen community led coordination. We will also deliberately expand outreach to underrepresented language communities.
3. Quality and Quantity of Content Learning Question:
Did the campaign maintain quality while driving content growth?
What we learned:
From the leadership evaluation:
87.5 percent confirmed content met WFHR editing standards 88 percent rated translation efforts effective or very effective
From participant evaluation: 29.3 percent gained translation skills 25.9 percent gained research and sourcing skills
Key insight: Quality was maintained while expanding translation and human rights related content. Translation emerged as a major impact area. Decision going forward: We will strengthen translation drive more for the next WFHR Campaign because it achieved a great result and we will include more reviewers structures and include more experienced reviewers in quality assurance roles. 4. Training Impact on Old and New Editors Learning Question:
How impactful was the training for different experience levels?
What we learned:
The campaign attracted a mix of:
39.7 percent intermediate editors 29.3 percent beginners 24.1 percent advanced editors 6.9 percent new editors Training impact: 98.2 percent rated training effective or very effective 96.6 percent felt confident applying what they learned 79.3 percent reported large improvement in human rights knowledge Key insight: Training was impactful across experience levels. Beginners gained foundational skills while experienced editors strengthened translation and sourcing expertise. Decision going forward: We will continue hybrid training models, expand hands on practical sessions, and introduce mentorship structures for new editors.
5. Participant Satisfaction and Knowledge Gain Learning Question: Did participants gain knowledge and feel satisfied? What we learned: 89.7 percent were satisfied or very satisfied 100 percent agreed the campaign broadened knowledge of human rights issues 94.8 percent felt their contributions made meaningful impact
Key insight:
The campaign successfully expanded awareness of human rights and environmental issues across Nigeria.
6. External Collaborations and Their Impact Some communities partnered with external organizations. These partnerships broadened understanding of human rights topics and strengthened thematic depth. Key insight: External partnerships enhance contextual learning and legitimacy. Decision going forward: We will formalize partnerships with mission aligned institutions and human rights organizations to strengthen grassroots impact and credibility.
7. Translation and Content Drive Translation was one of the most significant skill gains and content outputs of the campaign. It supported multilingual access and local relevance. Key insight:
Multilingual engagement increases inclusion and reach.
Decision going forward:
We will intentionally incorporate more language communities and ensure equitable representation rather than requiring smaller communities to operate under larger networks.

Overall Reflection The evaluation confirms that WikiForHumanRights 2025 Nigeria achieved strong impact across collaboration, training effectiveness, content quality, translation growth, and knowledge expansion. The campaign demonstrated high sustainability potential, strong community engagement, and effective capacity building. Most importantly, we learned that structured collaboration, inclusive language engagement, and careful timing are critical to sustaining impact. These lessons will directly inform planning, coordination, and strategic design for future WikiForHumanRights campaigns in Nigeria.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
Yes. One major issue was burnout among community leads and editors. The campaign coincided with several other ongoing Wikimedia initiatives, and many of the same community leaders were coordinating multiple campaigns simultaneously, including WikiForHumanRights. This overlap created pressure, slowed implementation in some communities, and reduced overall energy levels. It highlighted the importance of strategic scheduling and avoiding campaign congestion within the same period. Although some community leads had previously organized the campaign, there were still difficulties in fully aligning with updated rules and reporting structures. This showed that prior experience does not automatically eliminate the need for clear orientation and refresher sessions at the start of each campaign. We also encountered challenges with the review process. Several reviewers were engaged in other campaigns, which limited their availability. The absence of adequately structured community level review systems created bottlenecks in content verification and quality assurance. This reinforced how critical it is to establish dedicated, well coordinated review teams early in the campaign planning process. From these experiences, we learned the importance of: Better campaign timing and coordination across initiatives Clear onboarding and refresher briefings for community leads Stronger reviewer structures with defined roles and workload distribution Decentralized quality control mechanisms at the community level
While these challenges created temporary delays, they provided valuable lessons that will strengthen planning, coordination, and sustainability in future implementations.
