WikiJejama seeks to initiate a community-driven digital revitalization of the Lampung language and culture, transforming marginalized local knowledge from passive archival materials into dynamic, participatory, and freely accessible content across multiple Wikimedia platforms. The project aims to empower Lampung-speaking communities—especially youth, elders, educators, and cultural practitioners—to become active contributors and stewards of their own linguistic and cultural heritage.
By bridging the gap between tradition and technology, this project contributes to the Wikimedia Movement Strategy’s broader goals of Knowledge Equity and Capacity Building. Through collaborative documentation and digital literacy development, WikiJejama envisions a future where Lampung language and culture are not only preserved but actively practiced and represented within the global open knowledge ecosystem.
Main Challenges and Problems to Be Addressed:
1. Severe Underrepresentation in Open Knowledge Spaces: Despite Indonesia’s vast linguistic and cultural diversity, Lampung remains significantly underrepresented across Wikimedia projects. The Lampung language—comprising the Api and Nyo dialects—has minimal visibility in Wiktionary and only 540 pronunciation files on Wikimedia Commons (as of June 2025), compared to over 2,500 for Javanese and 2,300 for Sundanese. There are also very few Wikipedia articles covering Lampung cultural expressions. Each workshop will engage 10–15 participants in hands-on training on how to contribute to Wiktionary (Bahasa Indonesia), Lingua Libre, and Wikimedia Commons. Participants will learn to create and structure lexical entries, record and upload pronunciation files, and ethically document oral and cultural heritage. Before the activities, outreach is conducted through coordinated efforts by Wikimedia Bandar Lampung and regional Wikimedia communities, supported by our partner institutions.
