Part 1: Project and impact

[edit]

1. Describe the implemented activities and results achieved. Additionally, share which approaches were most effective in supporting you to achieve the results. (required)

We did our very best in carrying the executed/implemented activities by following thoroughly the planned approaches as designed in our submitted application. The step by step processes and approaches we followed during the cause of implementing these activities are explained here:

  1. Outreach Campaign: we embarked on both physical and online outreach campaigns. For the physical outreach, this year we bring something new and unique that added more flavor to our campaign, more fun and memorable and that is a ‘SONG’. Yes, we made a WLA campaign song that we used to attract public attentions during the outreach campaigns and arouse their curiosity to learn more about what we were campaigning for. The flyers and posters we distribute gave brief insight to the people. For the social media, we made posts through the community handles on platforms including WhatsApps Groups, X (formally Twitter), Bluesky and Facebook, an example is the: the post we made on X announcing the commencement of the contest. Also community members were encouraged to share and made similar posts on their individual social media accounts.
  2. Workshop/Training Sessions: we gathered the interested individuals who registered to participate in the training session through the information they provided on the Google form, we trained them on the basics of Wikimedia Commons, introduced them to the campaign page on Commons, show them the necessary elements like using proper category, WLA upload wizards and also gave chance to our expert photographers where they introduced them to mobile phone photography and editing using Snapseed and Photoshop.
  3. Photohunts: local transportation was arranged for interested community members were we embarked on a photowalk across places including farms, markets food vendors’ events etc. where we gather images related to the 2025 WLA campaign theme: “Farm to Plate”.
  4. Upload Sessions: a session for uploads was organized where the well experienced editors lead the newbies on how to upload their entries properly and that ensured minimal amount of errors and poor uploads as compared to our previous year campaign.

The music we used adds more fun to our physical outreach and ease our efforts to attract people, the training sessions added experience to our community members and the newbies also the social media campaigns helped keep our community online presence being active and involved.

Part 2: Learning

[edit]

4. In your application, you outlined some learning questions. What did you learn from these learning questions when you implemented your project? How do you hope to use this learnings in the future? You can recall these learning questions below. (required)

You can recall these learning questions below: 1. During our past two times participation of the year 2023 and 2024 Wiki Loves Africa campaigns, huge successes were achieved, we therefore hope to learn if we would be able to maintain such impact and whether we can achieve even more greater success this year that would be celebrated across the Wikimedia movement.

2. In what way did participation in WLA make our community members feel engaged and become attached to the Wikimedia movement?

3. How can you rate your overall performance in this year's campaign when compared to previous years?

4. What do you hope to do different in the coming year to make your campaign even more exciting?

  1. We learned that with continuing efforts, team work and proper implementation we wouldn't only just achieved our previous success but surpassed our previous achievements.
  2. As in the case of our previous participation in WLA campaign, our community members cultivate sense of belonging and exhibits spirits of connection to the movement. To some, WLA is a way of displaying our community members’ ability, skills and strength when it comes to quality contributions to Wikimedia projects.
  3. We can say this time around we have a more engaging interactive sessions and joyful moments. We also had more new faces during the workshop. The past experience has helped us in making this event a better. Introducing the participants to mobile phone photo editing has completely shift the dynamics of the participants’ uploaded photographs. So, overall, we say can say there is a significant improvement compared to last year campaign.
  4. This year we introduced a campaign song and have seen how effective and impactful it has become in transforming our campaign strategies to better. Next time, we plan to introduce the partcipants to the narrative video editing skills to help them learn how to submit video entries for both the local and international WLA campaigns, we will also introduce Wiki Loves Africa local prizes for Video and other initiatives like short videos of the sessions capturing memorable times, a campaign video that can be posted on our social media accounts as well as play during the trainings/upload sessions.

5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)

Yes, this year we witnessed a 50% increase in data prices after tariff hike in Nigeria. This happened after we have already planned and received funds for the campaign leaving us behind with the challenges of restructuring the participants' data reimbursements part of our financial budget. Though it was challenging, we were happy that we were able to make it work somehow and achieve a high success. Moreover, many other participants especially women couldn't get the chance to give it their best due to the Ramadan customs and traditions that restricted their complete availability for the campaign.

6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)

We already shared the outcome of this implemented activities and learnings with the community members through our community group on WhatsApp.
