During Wiki Loves Africa 2026 in Rwanda , we successfully implemented a series of inclusive activities focused on theRites and rituals in Rwanda as a theme of Wiki Loves Africa 2026 campaign,
We implemented inclusive trainings workshop on wiki commons and wikipedia and community engagement sessions that brought together both experienced Wikimedia contributor and new participants,
Wiki Loves Africa 2026 in Rwanda Activities resulted in creation and improvement of content on wikipedia and media uploads on wikimedia commons about our culture practices. Rites and rituals is the theme of the year where we got the opportunity to share the knowledge from one stage of life to another and include ceremonies such as birth and naming celebrations, honor the dead , marriage cerebrations...

You can recall these learning questions below: 1.How local partnerships influence access to authentic culture 2. Learning how to make documentation about our culture and encourage team work to keep the spirit of sharing knowledge about our culture. 3.How many photos were uploaded to Common from the campaign? 4.Story telling about cultural rites and rituals. 5. During the implementation of the project, Wiki Loves Africa 2026 in Rwanda I leaned to identify the good and quality of media uploaded on Wikimedia Common.
Opportunity to train new participants which increased my knowledge on Wikimedia projects.
In the future, I will use these insights to design more accessible activities, build stronger team work and accessibility on Wikimedia activities .
I also hope to impower the university students to contribute on Wikimedia projects, by editing and expending all articles created during the campaign to ensure a lasting impact.
5. Did anything unexpected or surprising happen when implementing your activities? This can include both positive and negative situations. What did you learn from those experiences? (required)
One of the challenges faced during the Wiki Loves Africa 2026 campaign was that it took place at the same time as the Wiki Loves Folklore campaign. Since both campaigns focused on cultural content and information, participants experienced confusion about which campaign they should upload their pictures to. This overlap created challenges in participant guidance, coordination of activities, and maintaining clear engagement for each campaign.
I learned how to create the daily communication for the active contributors so that they do not lose focus, by reminding the theme of the year , the kind pictures to upload and the category to use to keep them mindful.
6. What is your plan to share your project learnings and results with other community members? If you have already done it, describe how. (required)
Yes I have shared project learning and results with our community during the closing ceremony and awarding local Winners. I was able to participate in the jury team of Wikimedia Guinea for Wiki Loves Africa 2026 which increased my leanings and experience.

We faced the higher currency exchange rate than expected which resulted in receiving the lower amount of US dollars while preparing the financial report. The 2,900,900 Rwf is now 1,972.65$.
